Peter and Scott were already heading out, ready to confront the twins. The sounds of crashing and grunts filled the air, and they seized the opportunity to rush through the door.
As they reached the exit, Stiles opened the door to let Derek carry Cora, draped over his shoulder. "It's still here!" Stiles called out.
They quickly ran toward the ambulance. Stiles opened the doors, and Derek, holding Cora, laid her onto the stretcher.
"Derek, over here!" Jennifer called out.
Derek glanced over, and Hazel, following closely behind, saw a man's lifeless body lying on the ground. A chill ran down her spine.
Jennifer walked cautiously toward the body, and Derek followed, his eyes scanning the scene. Blood was spread everywhere, pooling around the dead man.
"Julia." A sharp female voice echoed through the space as a pair of clawed feet stepped into view. It was Kali, casually playing with the keys dangling from her fingers. "It's you."
Jennifer quickly stepped behind Derek, her hand gripping his shoulder. Stiles, his face tense, shut the ambulance doors. "You can't take her on alone."
"That's why we're running." Derek replied, his voice low.
Hazel opened her mouth to speak but stopped, remembering her decision to stay silent for now. She followed them as they cautiously began to retreat, their eyes darting back and forth.
Jennifer suddenly started running. Derek hesitated for a moment but then took off after her. When he turned and saw Hazel still standing behind, he quickly rushed to her side, grabbing her arm and pulling her into a sprint.
The sound of their footsteps echoed in the corridor as they rushed back inside. Stiles was left in the ambulance with the unconscious Cora.
They rounded a corner, and just as they were about to head in the other direction, Jennifer stopped them. "Wait! The elevator!"
They turned to see Kali charging toward them, her eyes locked on their every move. Derek shoved a stretcher into her path to slow her down, and the trio made a break for the elevator. Jennifer was already inside when Derek and Hazel reached the doors.
As the elevator doors began to close, Hazel hesitated. She turned back to face Kali, who was snarling, her sharp teeth bared.
"Hazel!" Derek's voice rang out as the doors closed, but Hazel didn't respond.
She took a deep breath, her face hardening with determination. Kali charged at her, but Hazel was faster. She darted out of the way, disappearing from Kali's line of sight.
Kali stopped, confused, growling as she scanned the area. But she didn't have long to search before Hazel reappeared, grabbing Kali by the throat and hurling her across the hall with brutal force.
Kali slammed against the wall, but she quickly recovered, growling and rushing back at Hazel. The two women collided in a flurry of strikes, Kali's kick landing across Hazel's cheek, leaving a deep scratch.
Hazel didn't flinch. She grabbed Kali's leg and yanked it out from under her, sending her crashing to the floor. Seizing the opportunity, Hazel twisted Kali's leg before kicking her square in the face, sending her head snapping back.
Kali growled in fury as she stood up, her claws raking across Hazel's arm. Hazel winced but didn't back down. The fight wasn't over. Kali darted away, disappearing into the shadows.
Hazel stood there, breathing heavily, her heart racing. She was glad to finally do something for once instead of running away. She wasn't just the helpless human anymore.
As Hazel exhaled, a hand landed on her shoulder, making her jump. She turned quickly, meeting Scott's gaze. His face was filled with confusion, but Hazel couldn't bring herself to look him in the eye. Instead, she turned away, her eyes locked on the chaos around them.
The lights flickered overhead, and Hazel and Scott exchanged a quiet glance. Neither of them spoke.
The silence was shattered as the elevator doors opened, revealing Derek, unconscious, lying in a heap on the ground. Scott rushed forward, Hazel following close behind. They knelt beside him, concern etching their faces.
Hazel's gaze shifted upward, noticing that one of the ceiling panels had been removed. "Jennifer," she muttered under her breath.
"Mom," Scott whispered, his voice breaking as he stood and ran off.
"Scott! Hazel!" Stiles called out, running toward them. His eyes widened when he saw Derek. But he didn't stop—he continued running after Scott, leaving Hazel to make the next move.
"Looks like you're the one who has to help the person you turned your back on," Eren's voice chimed in from behind her, his hands clasped behind his back, a smirk playing on his lips. "I hope you'll do something about this."
Hazel squeezed her eyes shut and sighed. "I hate it. Every time I get hurt, every time I have to take the blame, I'm the one who ends up saving their lives."
"You know why you're the one who has to save them?" Eren leaned closer, his voice dropping to a more serious tone. "Because you still care. That's who you are. You care about people—whether they deserve it or not. And believe me, there are plenty of people out there who would love to have someone like you close."
Hazel's gaze shifted to Derek's unconscious form, and she didn't respond. Her mind was a whirlwind of confusion and pain. All she wanted was to distance herself from him, but Eren was right—she couldn't just leave him like this.
"You probably think he betrayed you," Eren continued, walking around her now, his voice soft but insistent. "But it wasn't him—it was Jennifer. She used him, lied to him. She's the one who hurt him. So, do what you have to do." His voice turned demanding. "Save him."
Eren's presence faded, leaving Hazel alone with her thoughts.
She sighed deeply, her gaze falling to Derek. "I know I hate you right now, but that doesn't mean I can leave you like this."
Stepping toward him, she surveyed his unconscious body, her mind racing with the weight of her decision. She didn't want to do this alone.
And then, Stiles' face popped into her mind. She pulled out her phone, knowing he was still in the hospital. It was time to call for help.
"Stiles..." she whispered to herself.
Hazel too dramatic to even be near an Unconscious-Derek. Lmao. ─────────────────────────────
