Claw marks as big as Ambush vandalized the walls. Figure sat in the corner of the room in the body of a beast. He panted raspily and frantically, his chest heaving up and down—it sounded like every breath was painful.
His head turned rapidly to the door when it clicked open. He let out a low warning growl, his muscles tensing and his teeth baring. His nostrils flared as he smelled the air, and upon recognition of the smell, Ambush noticed he relaxed slightly, though still not letting his guard down.
"Hey, Figure, it's us," Ambush mumbled, warily standing near the door in front of Rush. "Ambush and Rush. You recognize our voices, right?"
Figure huffed, and bared rows of razor sharp teeth as he tasted the air for their scent. Suddenly he tensed, snarling, turning his head to the glass windows."What is it, Figure?" asked Ambush, backing up.
"Human.." snarled Figure in a low, inhuman voice, standing to his massive feet painfully slowly. His head hit the ceiling as he stood, and he let out a startled cry, lashing his rat-like tail.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," shushed Ambush. "There's no humans, I promise."
"Smell human," growled Figure. "Hungry.""You're hungry?" asked Ambush.
"Eat.." replied Figure, leaning down to Ambush's height. His breath was hot on her face as he sniffed her. She tensed up, and Rush cried out in fear as Figure approached closer.
Figure tilted his head at the new sound. He came even closer, and Rush whimpered as this beast of a boy with teeth bigger than his head was only a few inches away from tearing him apart.
"Smell.." inquired Figure. "Not human?"
"We aren't humans, silly!" Ambush replied with a nervous laugh. "Remember us? Ambush and Rush?"
Figure let out a curious click, his mouth upturned in a small smile. "Ambush and Rush!" he echoed. "Amb.."
The two looked up at Figure as he trailed off, his smile fading away as he looked around slowly, tasting the air. He let out a worried warble, tail beginning to sway against the floor.
"What's wrong?" asked Rush.
"Where?" cried Figure. "Where?"
"Where.. What?" pried Ambush. "Where is what?"
Figure clicked anxiously, swaying his head around, looking for the only thing that would bounce the soundwaves in the right way. He just repeated the word "Where?" over and over again, increasingly getting more fearful.
"What do you think he wants?" mumbled Ambush.
"Maybe he's looking for the others?" suggested Rush. "If we calm Seek and Screech down, maybe they'll be able to help us."
"Good idea. I'll stay here with him and try to get him to calm down. You go get Seek."
"Got it."
...
Eyes and black sludge painted the walls. Seek let out livid screams as he banged his fists on the walls, nothing in his mind but KILL, KILL, KILL.
Rush took a deep breath, and muttered "If I die, I'm gonna haunt Ambush for the rest of her life", before he clicked open the door. Seek roared and whipped around, locking a single furious eye with the boy.
Then he froze, narrowing his eye. The slime bubbled as he let out a low, rumbling growl, and Rush glanced at the sharp claws on the ends of his fingers.
"It's me, R-Rush!" Rush muttered, backing up into the corner of the room. Seek tilted his head, approaching Rush, anger bubbling in the black slime."WAIT WAIT DON'T HURT ME-" Rush frantically shouted, startling the monster and stopping him in his tracks.. With trembling hands he protected himself as Seek loomed over him. "F- Figure wants to see you. He.. he misses you, I think. He's really scared and lonely, and Ambush and I d-don't know what to do."
Seek froze for a moment, his gaze softening as Rush mentioned Figure's name. He stumbled back a bit, then fell to his knees.
"Seek-?.."
Rush's heart skipped when he saw Seek's human form return and the black sludge dissipate away slowly. Seek collapsed onto the floor, heaving his chest in a futile effort to breathe."Are- are you okay?!" exclaimed Rush, kneeling down next to Seek. "Please don't be dead, please don't be-"
"I'm not dead!" snarled Seek. "Where is he?"
Rush locked eyes with Seek. "Follow me."
