Illinois, Chicago.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You heard me."

"New York? For how long?" Y/N asked.

"Forever, Y/N. We are moving permanently to New York." Felicia said.

"But why, mum? What happened?"

"You know, before you were born, I lived in New York, and now your Grandpa wants us to return." Felicia said.

"What about my school, my friends, our house, this store?" Y/N then looked at Maya "and our family?" Maya looked down in response. She was as shocked as her friend. She looked as if she wanted to say something but couldn't. Felicia saw her but she was completely helpless too.

"Y/N, we will start over. New place, new school, new friends." Felicia said.

"Why do we have to start over when we already have an amazing life?"

"I'd rather not argue. We'll be leaving in the afternoon tomorrow." Felicia said .

"I don't want to argue either. I'm just curious what made you decide to leave everything behind and move to New York."

"Come on, Let's go home." Felicia ignored her son's objections and tried to change the subject.

"But-Mom.."

"No more questions, Y/N, please."

"Okay, you go home. I'm going out with Maya and will come back later."

"You are not going anywhere!" Felicia exclaimed. "You are coming with me. And Maya, honey, its late you must go back to your house too."

"Yes, Ms. Hardy." Maya said. She then turned to face Y/N, who was looking at her with sad eyes. Maya smiled at him and waved bye before leaving. That look shattered Y/N. He only wanted to give his childhood friend, who has always been there for him, the birthday celebration she deserved. But now he has to move to another city without knowing why.

Y/N and Felicia returned to their home. They didn't talk much on the way because they both had good reasons to keep quiet.

"Go change, I will prepare the dinner." Felicia said.

"I'm not hungry." Y/N rolled his eyes and went to his room.

"You have to eat something."

"I said I am not hungry." He slammed the door shut. Felicia's eyes welled up with tears. She, too, was compelled, and she never wanted to make her son angry or upset.

Y/N was lying on his bed, lost in thought. He was annoyed and baffled at his mother. This was not the first time this had happened. Felicia never told Y/N much about his father. His mother's enigmatic behaviour irks him. He was rolling and changing sides, trying to fall asleep, when he heard a loud knock on his window.

"I am sorry, were you sleeping?"

"You know we have a front door, Maya." Y/N sighed.

"It's late, and I'm sure your mother would have sent me away." Maya said while climbing into Y/N's room through his window.

"Yeah, right." Y/N went back to sit on his bed.

"Couldn't sleep?" Maya followed and sat beside him. Y/N nodded no in response. "She must have a good reason for all of this." Maya said.

"Pffft!" Y/N scoffed.

"That was rude. She is your mom, Y/N. Hurting you is the last thing she would want."
