Jennie stood by Ji-Sook's hospital bed inside the compound. It was a dark room with only monitors and a comfortable bed while Ji-Sook slept. Her eyes were shut and she had a bandage going around her back underneath the white shirt Jennie had helped her wear.Jennie sat beside her bed and watched her while thinking for the millionth time: why the hell would she take a bullet for me?
It was messing with Jennie's head. She couldn't understand how Ji-Sook could do a complete 180 of her character from the time of her accident. Now she's nice to be around, approachable and making Jennie like her too much.
I'm supposed to kill her, damnit!
She had been working on putting an end to her slivers of feelings for Ji-Sook but the past 2 days had been tough. Their argument by the pool had left her with too much awareness of her body. Then that night, Ji-Sook had the gall to come in embarrassed while Soojoo wore an obvious scarf, leaving Jennie to make out the hickey underneath there. It made jealousy roar in her when it shouldn't have. Then finally, Ji-Sook had to go and take a bullet for her and ask how she was doing when the raven was the one that got shot.
Jennie huffed out a breath after deciding to leave and stood up. There was no point in dwelling on her feelings. They had to die.
She was at the door when she heard a groan. She spun around and was beside Ji-Sook's bed in an instant.
The raven's eyes fluttered open. "Ruby Jane? What happened?"
"You got shot..." Idiot. "....ma'am."
Ji-Sook looked at her confused for a second before understanding dawned on her. She gave a sheepish smile and Jennie knew it was time for her to rage.
"Ji-Sook! I'm your BODYGUARD!!! IT'S MY JOB TO PROTECT YOU!!! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!" She was practically gasping for air with how loud she was shouting. She was furious at her feelings. At the distracting woman in front of her.
Ji-Sook didn't meet her eyes as she said softly and slowly, "I...I wasn't."
Jennie felt her heart stop. The raven's dark gaze drew up to hers and she gave a small smile. Jennie felt her walls around her heart start to melt. Ji-Sook opened her palm out and raised it, silently asking for her to hold it.
Jennie's eyes drifted between Ji-Sook's bright eyes and her hand. Jennie hesitated for a beat before lifting her hand and sliding her palm into hers. It felt like pieces of a puzzle clicking into place. Warmth seeped up her arm and into her chest. She had never felt that way with any woman before. She could feel her walls dropping and Ji-Sook was staring at her with so much care that it hurt. She always had so many burdens in her heart and that one look from Ji-Sook was tearing everything down.
Then she heard loud thudding and she tried to pull her hand away but Ji-Sook held on. Her face a mask of determination.
"Ma'am...please." Jennie said softly because she could hear Soojoo's voice and Jennie didn't want to be deeply caught in her web of jealousy anymore than she was already.
Ji-Sook stared her down and pressed a kiss to the back of her hand. Jennie gasped when she felt her lips on her skin. It was practically fire with how much it burned.
Ji-Sook let go and Jennie's hand fell to the side just as Soojoo walked in with a fearful expression, shouting, "Ji-Sook!"
The raven gave Soojoo a tight smile and said, "Hi...I'm feeling fine now." Her gaze drifted to Jennie briefly but the brunette didn't meet it.
Soojoo didn't realize and kept with her fussing as if Jennie didn't exist in the room.
And I shouldn't exist here. I'm practically a third wheel. My feelings for Ji-Sook doesn't change my revenge....
