Chapter 5: The Demon of the Forest

Arthur Leywin

Forest of Elenoir - Late Evening

Days passed by like the blink of an eye. Everyday, me and Tessia would travel towards the capital of Elenoir while telling stories or talking about our individual kingdoms. We joked, laughed and even played on the way there. I had forgotten how much I connected with the young elf girl in my previous life. Even with our mental ages growing even further apart, she was always able to bring out my inner child.

While we traveled, I continued to assist Tessia with forming her mana core. I knew she was close to completing it, and we just needed a little more time. The more I thought about it though, the more I felt we should wait until we got to Elenoir to complete her core. There, we could do it safely and away from the prying eyes of mana beasts. Afterall, Tessia had produced a massive explosion when forming her core last time.

Speaking of mana beasts, although they had frequently crossed our path during the beginning of our journey we now rarely saw them. Perhaps it was because we were closer to the elf villages that surrounded the capital, but I couldn't be sure. Still, less beasts meant I could focus more on assimilating with my beast will, so I didn't complain.

Before I could use the abilities granted to me with Sylvia's beast will, I needed to focus on letting mana seep into my muscles and bones. Otherwise, using any stage of the will would only damage my body rather than strengthen it. Luckily, this process was a bit easier this time around as my control and amount of mana were higher than in my previous life. Still, it would likely take at least a year until I could fully integrate with Sylvia's beast will.

As we were walking, Tessia suddenly grew excited and began to look around at the trees in a hurry. "Art~ Art! We're close! See! Look over here and over here!" She said proudly, pointing at two trees that looked the same as all the other trees in the forest.

"Yeah, you can clearly tell we're going the right way. I mean, look at all that moss. How did I miss that?" I said, my tone flat and sarcastic.

Just like in my previous life, she was seeing signs that we were near the capital. I had no idea what she was looking at even after all my experience being in the forest, but despite my teasing I knew she was right.

Her face turned to a slight grin. "Somebody's grumpy this morning. Come on meanie head, we're almost there!" It seems she had grown an immunity to my teasing. She took my hand and started half-dragging me through the forest.

Holding her hand as we walked, I began to ponder about what I would do when I arrived in Elenoir. I had to establish myself there as someone the elven people could trust. In my previous life, the elven people considered me a hero even before the war. With my connections to Tessia, grandpa Virion, and the rest of the elven royal family I was known to a vast majority of the elven people, most of whom saw me in a good light. However, I needed to be more than that in this life, especially to the other two races.
