Sweet song (Boombox)

I had this massive big brain moment that what if you sang really good,, an uhhmmmm Boombox was just strolling when he heard you

Boombox's head immediately jotted up from the voice. It was heavenly, something that you'd hear from someone wonderful. His head felt like it was always wrapped around that single voice that would began to sing every few days. It was becoming more frequent, the melody getting trapped in his head, becoming an ear-worm. He groaned, he couldn't take his mind off of it, and only craved it more whenever it stopped. He just wanted to find out who it belonged to. He needed to. He just wanted to give the person a small little compliment, is all. It was too much of a soothing sound to go unnoticed.

Boombox hefted his confidence up and began to look around, he tried every nook and cranny, but no matter how close the voice sounded, it was only farther than it seemed. He only got slightly more desperate. Sure, he shouldn't be, but this is something he's had on his mind for a while, and he needed to get to who it was. It didn't sound like anyone he knew.

After looking everywhere, he slumped onto the floor with a sigh. He couldn't find anybody that was singing.

"Maybe it's best I try tomorrow if I hear 'em", Boombox thought with a hand to their chin. It was going around the evening, anyway. He then just stood up from the floor, and decided to go visit Slingshot for a while.

Boombox stepped into the Cafe, where Slingshot was hard at work. Catsho— SORRY... Slingshot was finishing putting up orders on the board for the other workers when he saw his friend Boombox come in. He poked his head up from behind the counter, immediately beginning to grin.

"B.box!" Slingshot waved his hand around wildly. Boombox did the same.

"Hey Sling! How's work goin?" He asked with his head tilted.

"Great! We're getting alot of business, which means I might be getting a bonus!" Slingshot crossed his arms proudly. "You picked a nice time to come in and check up on me. I'm on my break now."

"Sweet! We can talk then!" Boombox grinned. Slingshot and him sat down at a table, Boombox anxiously fiddling with his hands. "Soo.. you remember when I brought up the voice from outside, right?"

"Oh, yeah. I heard it outside earlier. It was pretty nice." Slingshot nodded with the reply. "Not sure where it's coming from, though. I tried looking for around to see if they were around, but no luck." He shrugged. Boombox sighed. "No luck with checking in with Skateboard either."

"Thanks for trying, you guys didn't really need to." Boombox said.

"It's no big deal, B.Box! We know how much you like their voice! So it didn't hurt us at all to try looking." Slingshot smiled. "You just need to try finding the most unexpected place! That's always where everything is!... I think."

Boombox was pensive. "Did you look all over the alleys and stuff too?" He asked.

"Yeah, couldn't find a trace of someone besides their voice. It's like it's coming from the sky or something." He shrugged.

"You're right...." Boombox put a hand to his chin with a squint. After a few moments of hesitation, he immediately slams the table, startling Slingshot in the process. "I GOT IT!" He exclaimed.

"Uh, you-- you did-?" Slingshot could only stutter out a question before Boombox began making a move.

"Thanks, Sling! I better get goin'!" Boombox began rushing off out the cafe.

"Wait- WAIT! Aren't you gonna get anything before you go??" Slingshot yelled.

Boombox immediately began backing up over to Slingshot. "A couple o' cupcakes wouldn't hurt." He said with a sheepish grin.

Rushing out the store with a cupcake stuffed in his mouth and a few saved in a bag, he began to rush off into the city again. He had the most biggest brainstorm in that cafe, and he knew what he had to do next before that was going to be difficult.

 He had to wait.

 And wait.

 ...Aaannndd wait.

Okay, maybe, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go home and wait.

He stored the cupcakes in his fridge, waiting until the singing happened again. Surely, it couldn't be long until the voice appeared again. Surely. In reality, it was days. Boombox had already gotten the song stuck in his head like an earworm, being unable to get rid of it no matter how many songs he played on his boombox. He only huffed, he's probably not gonna ever hear it again. It was whatever, it's not like he knew the person personally, anyway. It was about a week later. He was just playing some of his music outside when it was the evening once more. He hung out on a bench nearby with his eyes closed, and just stood in some shade. The days were getting a little hot anyway, so a bit of coolness is always a great thing. He tuned everything out around him, relaxing.

That was until he heard a voice. One that was singing, at that.

He immediately leaped from the bench. There it was! The VOICE! The thing he's been waiting for for decades! He began to run around, frantically looking. Looking every nook and cranny, not even getting close to seeing someone, for some odd reason. It was until the voice sounded close that he finally heard the voice from up above. It sounded close, as he then did the one thing he didn't even think of doing.

He looked up, of course.

Doing this, he saw a small shadow's head poke out from the shadows. The figure moved up on the roof as they sung. Boombox quickly took a detour up to the roof, scrambling up on a few houses to get to the top. Once he was there, he had a rough landing, flopping onto the cold rooftop.

"Eugh... ow." He groaned. His eyes widened as soon as he saw the person on the roof. They seemed startled from the way he came up there. He got up, brushing himself off. "Hey there." He sheepishly grinned. "Sorry if I disturbed you.."

"Ah, no no, it's alright!" They quickly brushed it off. "I just didn't expect anyone to actually come up here.. ahah." They grinned nervously.

"Why wouldn't anybody do that?? Your voice is beautiful!" Boombox replied quickly, but soon put his hand over his mouth. "I mean. I could leave you be, if you want."

"It's fine, thank you! I usually like to sing as practice outside, not really to get much attention.. I'm glad you enjoy my singing." They said. Odd they say that when their voice can be heard everywhere, but hey, maybe it's getting caught up in the moment.

"Well, what's your name?" Boombox asks while tilting his head.

"My name's (Y/N)!" They said with a grin. "It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too!" Boombox grinned. He walked over and sat down near them. "So, what song are you practicing with, exactly?"

"Well, it's one of my favorite songs. It's called (insert very clever part where it's actually your favorite song)." They explain, sitting down with Boombox. "I don't get to sing it often cause I don't get much time to sing at home."

"Really?" Boombox's face looked slightly surprised.

"Yeah, it's pretty busy when you gotta help your family with work, and all that jazz." They say while looking down at the city. "Up here, though, I feel like I don't need to worry, and I can just.. express myself, you know?"

Boombox nodded. "Must be nice to be up here and let all your cares go away." Y/N nodded. It was a nice sight from here, the sunset wasn't buried under all these buildings from this sight, making it a pretty nice spot. There was a silence, the two staring out at the sky, before Boombox turned back over to them. "You ever sung with the music?"

"Well, no, I don't do that. Causes too much of a commotion at my house, I get told to turn it down." They say, still looking out at the sunset. Boombox just stared at the boombox he had on him, soon setting it down and rummaging through his pocket. He then pulled out a tape, putting it into a compartment on the boombox and began to hit play. They jotted their head up at him, recognizing the music.

"Do you actually have the instrumental to..." They paused in their words. Boombox only just smiled, shifting himself around to face Y/N. They just shifted themself to him.

"Do you mind if I asked you to sing?.." Boombox asked nervously. They only gave a soft smile to him.

"I don't mind at all." They grab a water bottle from nearby, taking a quick sip before clearing their voice and beginning to sing.
