chapter 4: closing the barrier.

Mal pov

It was the next day and beast, belle and fairy godmother called me and Ben in for a meeting to discuss what happened yesterday

"I think we all know why we're here. The people are in a panic about Hades. He almost got out." Beast said

"Who knows what he would've done if he had escaped?" Fairy godmother asked

"We can't risk having another villain on the loose." Beast said

"I really feel like this is all my fault. - I'm supposed to protect Auradon." I said feeling bad

"You did. You did protect Auradon." Ben said trying to provide comfort

"No I didn't Ben if it wasn't for haven hades would have gotten out" I said as Ben's phone rang

"Every time we open the barrier, we're exposed to danger. Maleficent. Uma. Or Hades." Beast said as Ben took the call

After a few minutes Ben came back over to us with news we didn't expect

"...Maleficent's scepter and the queen's crown have been stolen." Ben said

"Uma." Beast said

"Or haven. I still don't trust what she says about not knowing Uma's plans" I said

"We don't know that, Dad. and we don't know if it was haven Mal." Ben said

"When the people hear this, they will never wanna leave their houses. What do we tell them?" Belle said as she turned and looked at me  "Mal... What do we do? How do we keep evil out of Auradon?"

I think that there's only... one way to guarantee their safety. And I think that there... Can't be anymore going in and out. I think that we have to close the barrier. Forever. I said as Ben looked at me like I slapped him in the face

"Mal you can't be serious. What about all those kids? We promised them that they would get off the isle." Ben said walking away from me

"Ben? Hey. I do not want to take away your dream, Because it was so beautiful. And it is why I fell in love with you. But as king and his queen, what's our duty?" I said

"...To protect Auradon. But you know what this would mean? All those kids? Are you prepared for that?" Ben said looking at me

"I know what it means. And, no. I'm not prepared for it. I just think that we have no other choice." I said

"Son... Mal's right." Beast said

"I just don't think that we would forgive ourselves if something terrible happened." I said

I knew Evie and haven wouldn't like this but I didn't care I had to do what I had to do to protect auradon and the life that I now had.

Later that day I went to Evie's and saw that haven was there as well since Evie had invited her and Natasha over to for brunch while me and Ben were in the meeting

"Who else knows about the crown and the scepter?" Evie asked

"No one. I mean... Think about it. It was scared enough as it is. We have to employ these entirely new security measures." I said

"Will this delay our bringing over more VKs? Cuz me and Evie are already working on a new list" haven said as Evie nodded in excitement

"We're talking about "closing the barrier" for good." I said as haven and Evie looked at me

"But you said no? I mean the five of us are living the dream here, and we finally get to share that. I mean, what could be more important than that?" Evie said as haven nodded in agreement

"Yeah. I know.  I mean, maybe security or maybe peace of mind for everyone in Auradon." I said trying to help them to see that this was a good idea

"Is that what they're thinking? M, were they seriously thinking that no one will ever go in and out of the Isle ever again? What, we never get to go back and see our parents? And what about these kids? We promised them that they could go back and visit whenever they wanted." Evie said

"Yeah. I know." I said

M, I'm so glad that you are going to be queen. You will be a part of these conversations, you will stand up for the VKs. Thank you for telling us. And you'll be a great queen. Evie said as she hugged me while haven just looked at me

At first I thought haven believed that I was on the vks side that is until she asked the thousand dollar question

Did you say no when they brought up the idea of closing the barrier? Haven asked

Uh...I said as Evie spoke up

"Of course Mal said no. She knows how important this is to us. how could you ask such a thing? Evie said"

I was just making sure. You know Mal has a habit of lying to make herself look good haven said

Well mal isn't lying. Right Mal? Evie said

.....right. I said as Evie smiled

Now thats over with I have some leftover strawberry waffles that I set aside for u Evie said as she led me to the kitchen while haven gave me a side eye
