A loud ding causes me to jump up and rub my face. I turn and grudge over to the timer, pressing the 'off' button and taking out a simple chocolate cake from the oven. I slide onto a cooling sheet and look around the shop. It was Christmas Eve and it was packed. People were buying pies and cookies and cakes left and right for their Christmas parties.I take my apron and wipe my face, taking off any flour that had stuck to my face.

My hair clung to the back of my neck as I attempted to bring it up into a messy bun. It was a hot, sticky day today and I was trying to keep myself cool. I try to think back to last Christmas, when I had woken up in a hospital with no recognition of who I was or where I was. My mother had been there for me ever since I woke up. Showing me pictures and trying to recollect my memories. I saw pictures of my first tooth being lost, my first time riding a bike, graduating middle school, graduating high school, and my first day of college. My mother's smile grew with every story, but that's all they were to me. Stories. Not a single memory had came back. Of course, I didn't have the heart to tell her that none of it was coming back. So I smiled and allowed her happiness.

After a while she had realized she was making no progress, so her and my father packed their bags and headed back to their home in Minnesota. Of course I said my goodbyes, but I don't miss them. It's pretty hard to when the only thing I can remember about them is them shoving my so called childhood memories down my throat after I had woken up from a coma. You could say it's heartless that I feel nothing when I see them or get a phone call but it's the stone cold truth. I inhaled and the scent of ginger filled my senses. I close my eyes and smile to myself. It's an amazing smell and I was obsessed.

"Evelynn," Debbie calls, snapping me out of my senses. "I have to run into the backroom and place an order for more fondant, can you take over the register for a minute?" I nod and she sends me a grateful smile as she hurries to the backroom. I adjust my apron as I walk up to the register.

"Welcome to Dee's bakery, how may I help you today?" I ask as I look up and see a familiar blue eyes and messy brown hair.

 "Oh hi Grayson!"

"Hey Evelynn, I didn't know you worked here." Grayson says as his eyes scan over my face. I clear my throat and look at the long line behind him and decide, much to my dislike, this needed to be a short conversation.

"Yeah, I co-own it with a good friend of mine." I smile, tucking a stray piece of hair behind my ear, "So what can I help you with on this fine day?" His eyes lingered on mine for a little longer before he turned his attention to the display counter.

"I think I'll take some of your ginger snaps." He says and my grin gets a little wider.

"Good choice, they're my favorite." I open up the counter and fold up one of our boxes, I then fill it with ginger snaps and put it on the scale to make sure it is the right amount. Once it is even I tie the box and set it on the counter.

"That'll be $3.78" I inform him. He nods and goes through his wallet and he pulls out a crisp $20 and briskly hands it to me. "Alright, out of $20 your change will be -" I look up to hand him his change but he, and the box of ginger snaps, had disappeared. I stand up on my tip toes and look through the sea of people but he is nowhere in sight. I continue to daze off until someone cleared their throat. My eyes snapped to a middle aged man with his arms crossed and tapping his foot impatiently.

"Oh sorry sir, how may I help you?"—-I put my keys in my pocket after I lock my car. I feel around for Grayson's change until my hand runs over the rubber binder with the money. I quickly make my way over to his house and knock on the door. I hum a little song I had stuck in my head when Grayson's door opens.
