... I clenched my jaw my hands twitching, as the boy, close to my age, in the cage cried out with pain. I forced my hands into fists, forcing the power I felt welling at my fingertips back down into the recesses of my very being.

The people around me laughed and cheered the soldiers on as they continued to beat and taunt the chained boy. The sun glinted off of their armor as they took delight in torturing a helpless person.

"Show us your power boy." One soldier said kicking the boy in the stomach. The boy rolled on the floor of the cage in agony, but refused to cry or scream. Trying vaguely to use his arms as protection. His face and body bloodied, his hands straining at the enclosed chains that covered his entire hand.

"Yes, Praeditus pig. Show us your power!" The other soldier laughed kicking him in the back. The boy groaned lowly, biting his lip.

I ground my teeth harder, averting my eyes. The power in me surged up again, filling my hands with a pulsing sensation. I cleaned my fists harder and turned, ready to run into the crowd. But my eyes caught and held on the boys . His dark eyes bored into mine and, in that instant, I felt a strong connection pass between us.

   I broke.

The power surged through me, filling my entire being like a storm swept ocean. I lifted my hands and let go. Water cascaded out of them, straight towards the cage with it's three inhabitants. It hit it and sent the cage onto its side

Everyone around me was screaming but it came to me as from a far away and through a long tunnel. I walked slowly towards the cage, sending another stream straight towards it. The door broke open under the barrage of water. The soldiers in side scrambled to rise to their feet but with another concentration of power I sent them both flying backwards, chocking and coughing.

I kneeled by the boy who was staring at me with wide eyes. Ignoring him I reached for the keys on the belt of one of the soldiers with one hand, while keeping the other trained on them. They let me have them without a fight, still gasping for breath and scared out of their wits. I smirked briefly, still feeling as calm and still as a sea before the storm, as I quickly unlocked the boys chains.

As soon as I unlocked him the boy struggled to sit up.

"Who are you?" He asked hoarsely.

I met his dark eyes wryly. "I'm the person that saved you. But we have to leave quickly. The soldiers will have been alerted by now. Can you walk?" I asked my voice sounding distant to my own ears. He nodded his dark eyes watchful and I helped him stand to his feet.

Just then the sound of doom reached my ears. Soldiers. Many of them, were running towards us, swords at the ready. I was already starting to feel my power dwindling, but I sent another stream at them, hurtling them back.

I gasped for air staggering back as my power suddenly gave out. Leaving me with nothing but a weakened state.

I heard the boy next to me groan. I turned towards him, already reaching towards him to steady him if he should start to fall.

But he wasn't falling. He was standing straighter. His shoulders were pulled back and his face was twisted into a painful grimace. But his hands, his hands were glowing, almost pulsing as mine did before I released my power. I realized; he was a Inferno, a Praeditus with the ability to call fire.
