Chapter fourpiece of cake
TW: foul language & slight yelling

October 9th, 1992
Adam Banks

WALKING INTO THE HAWKS' home rink I had my hockey bag on my left and held my hockey stick in my right hand. Walking up to the class overlooking the ice, I saw District-Five huddled on the beach, I scanned all of their faces to see if I could find Cassie but I couldn't see her. I did a double take and looked at the back of their 'jerseys' and saw Conway, 86 that's her.

Cassie turned around with her helmet in her hands as she said something to a teammate. She looked up my way and lightly smiled, I smiled back before someone swung their arm around me and pulled me close to them.

"Let's go, Banks." I hear  River say over my shoulder. I looked at him as he led me toward the locker room with the rest of the team in front of us. The team was in the locker room setting down their bags as we walked in and we later joined them.

I sat my hockey bag down and pulled my jockey off as I slipped my Vans off my feet but before I could do anything else, I heard and felt Coach Reilly's footsteps coming to the locker room door.

"Alright Hawks, listen up." He said as the team dropped what they were doing and turned toward him. "We're playing District Five tonight, So we all know how this will go; shut out and no goals from that little Conway chick." He announced as he walked in front of me.

Coach looked down at all of us before he walked to the locker room door again, "I need to go take care of something really quick. Get on the ice for practice in about 5." he hollered before closing the door to the locker room.

I took a deep breath and changed into my hockey gear as the rest of the team talked about Cassie. I pulled my jersey over my head as River walked up beside me.

"Coach doesn't go one day without bringing up 'that Conway chick'," River said we he fixed a piece of tape on his stick.

"She is a damn good player just like he said." I point out while grabbing my gloves.

"True, she should be with us. I bet you she'd look good in a Hawks uniform" River says as Micheal and Alex walk up beside us, the four of us are now in a circle as the other players are still talking about Cassie.

"Yeah, Larson and I have a bet who can take her out on a date first." Micheal chimes in.

Larson looked at me and said, "Yeah, ten bucks does anybody want in?" River holds out his hand and shakes Micheal & Alex's hand agreeing on the bet. "banks?" McGill asks as the three boys look my way

"Sure." I agree before even thinking. blah blah blah

"Good luck boys, I'm on my way to talk to her now." Alex jokes before walking out of the locker room with Micheal not far behind. I put my helmet on my head, grab my gloves and stick, and walk out of the locker room with River by my side.

Walking out into the rink, the cold hair hit my face and the adrenalin kicks in like it always does when we're on home ice. I skate up behind Micheal for our circle at the center I've, my favorite home game tradition. The team started chanting "hawks" while tapping our sticks on the ice and skating around our mascot.
