We reached the training room and I briefly read through a few pages while giving Ominis the rundown of what we would be working on. I explained the essence of wandless magic, that being the first thing I wanted to accomplish. This would give us an upper hand in several ways.
"So put basically, wandless magic is just redirecting and readjusting our mindset about magic. See, wands act as a finite point to focus into with a magical amplifier inside of it. That amplifier being the core of the wand. So in order to understand how to do magic without that, we have to take a deeper look into the structure of ourselves. Just as magical beasts have different magical properties, we too are made up of magical properties. It's something that scientifically happens within a Wizard's soul and genetic makeup. There's a lot of debate as to where this initially came from, and that's not important to get into." I paced as I explained this, keeping a book open using my hand to support the spine.
"Knowing that, we can think about how that can be applied with just our bodies. People for a long time didn't use wands, and it's unfortunate we've become so reliant on them, it makes magic easier, and can greatly increase specific spells based on how much magic is naturally stored in the woods and cores in the wands. But ultimately, it's more inconvenient and less powerful. Instead of us having a stand of a core, we have hundreds of branches of veins filled with magical energy. This energy is constantly being pumped through our blood, and we can use as much or as little as we want. But we have to really train ourselves to utilize certain "Percentages" of that magic flow. We can really expel magic from anywhere if we really wanted to, but the easiest way to focus the energy is through the fingertips since, like a wand, it's a finite point. Just a little less finite than a wand.. Does that make sense?" I asked hoping I wasn't being too confusing."
His fingers were pressed against his cheek in a focused manner. He started to nod slowly. "Actually, yes. Surprisingly it's an easy thing to grasp when you visualize it." His voice was enthusiastic at the fact this was so far easy to grasp.
I closed the book in my hands with a force then set it down on the nearby plain wood table. "Good. understanding it and applying it are two different things though." I walked over to him and started to move him into a specific stance. Kicking his legs out to be in a supported stance. One leg further back and bent more at the knee, while his right leg came forward more with the knee barely bent. One arm was extended straight out and his other hand came across his body to rest on his bicep.
"So this stance is the best way to really get familiar with your flow of magic. You are grounded while being focused in one direction, your hand connected to the arm you will be first attempting to cast out of. This allows the flow of magic to all move to one point. To begin they recommend just pointing out a finger and really focusing the output of magic from that one point. It's much harder to focus it into something like your palm. He listened intently and started to really focus on feeling his own energy.
"There is definitely also a meditative process to this, as I'm assuming you've already figured out. We really have to become aware of the magic energy moving through our blood and muscles. This can take a long time since we aren't used to having to feel that it's there. Once you feel that you have it, envision your finger as the wand and just do a basic cast" I spoke while getting into the same position and becoming silent as we both focused. After some time had passed Ominis had suddenly released a basic cast from his finger which startled me. I looked at him surprised and he turned towards me, his eyes not quite landing on me.
"I'm sorry, there was just a very specific moment and feeling that happened that I decided to jump at." He relaxed from his position and I grabbed his hand.
"Yes! That's exactly what happens, that's the feeling you've got to act on, eventually it gets more frequent and noticeable. The only magic I've been able to use wandless is ancient magic, because the feeling is much different and much stronger. So you are ahead of me already in terms of normal magic. Lets keep going, the big thing i want you to focus on is not needing your wand to see. You will need to be able to do something similar by your own means, in case you are stripped from your wand." He looked shocked.
"I don't know why I never actually pierced that together as a possibility! I don't even know how I would go about that.." he said in a worried tone.
"I think the best way would be to really understand your flow, then see if you can feel what your wand does in correspondence to your energy and see if you can start to mimic that." He nodded and took the stance again with determination, immediately closing his eyes and focusing. I did the same. We spent the rest of the day getting familiar with it, working until late into the night before we decided to call it a night and head to bed.
The next several weeks became nonstop all day. Tending to Beasts, training, reading, dueling, recapping, and of course eating and sleeping when the time came. We both got decently proficient at casting simpler spells without wands, as well as learning more complex spells with the help of our wands. We engaged in a lot of deep conversations about magic history and anatomy. Digging into theoretical magic and discussing how much of it could actually be achievable. Many great Wizards and Witches in the past did a lot of "Theoretical Magic" because they grasped the truth of just how much magic could do with enough trial and error.
A month after we started training, something interesting finally happened. We got an owl with a parchment that read
"I am losing my patience, you have two days to find me or I will slaughter your parents."
"Hm. charming fellow. We have two days to go to London or he kills my parents. I think we are ready. What do you think?" He had his shirt off and was wiping the sweat from his brow. Deep holes and scorch marks covered the training room. He lifted his hand and a single bright large red flash burst through the room, he turned in a circle, observing the work we had done.
"I would say so. Lets go get your parents and see the "mastermind" behind it all '' His fingers doing air quotes in the air around the mastermind. I laughed at the remark and headed to pack my things, Ominis close behind.
