Work dragged out long for Nat that evening.
Mostly because of the fact that the Quinn Fabray had kissed her. It was a real kiss, not a peck, not a hug or an intense and longing stare– a kiss. Something intimate and special and insanely distracting, which was good. It was fantastic. It was a solid move, it told Nat all she needed to know. That kiss was a message, telling her that Quinn still loved her. And that was enough to motivate Nat to do anything she wanted to get Quinn.
So that evening, Nat got lost in thought, lost in her wild ideas of her. And it was because she could, she could finally indulge in those thoughts and feelings that she had held for Quinn. It was an intoxicating feeling to let the scenarios play out in her mind... her favourite one involved herself and Quinn going out on a picnic, on a warm summer day, to an empty field with nice smelling flowers and willow-y trees. They would eat great food and drink champagne that would tingle on their lips. Then, they would watch the sunset and Quinn would lean on her shoulder and it would be perfect—
Snap! Snap! Snap!
"What's got you so distracted, Trailer Park?" Sue had her hand held in front of Nat's face. She had snapped her fingers at her so loudly, she had interrupted the daydream, "I pay you to entertain my sister, not stare into space with a dopey look on your face. You have plenty of time to space out at school."
Jean was perfectly content sitting in bed and using the colouring books Nat had brought in with her. She looked up at the pair with a smile, "Has Nat been daydreaming about her girlfriend?"
Nat laughed, somewhat surprisedly, "I don't have a girlfriend, Jeanie. I'm too committed to you and I could never leave you hanging. You're my best girl!"
"I'm flattered, but I don't swing that way." Jean laughed.
"You've wounded me, Jeanie," Nat sighed dramatically, "I shall never love again, alas you have broken my heart!"
"All jokes aside, Trailer Park," Sue smirked almost teasingly, "you are glowing like you're an eight year old who just got a gold star. What happened? Did Quinn finally give into your nagging?"
Nat smiled brightly, and didn't respond.
Sue's jaw dropped, "Are you serious?"
"So you do have a girlfriend!" Jean said with a smile.
"We haven't had the talk yet, but uh, she definitely kissed me and I feel like even though she kinda ran away afterwards, it still means she feels something for me," Nat smiled softly, "right?"
"Let me get this straight..." Sue seemed less shocked now that she knew the whole story, "Quinn kissed you, and then she left with no explanation of how she is feeling? And I assume you got upset that she probably wants to put that whole thing behind you..."
Nat's smile faded slightly, "Look, we fight all the time. That's nothing. She is the one who decided to make the first move and therefore, it isn't my fault if I expect a little more then friendship."
"What were you doing before the kiss then, kiddo? I mean, it doesn't seem like you two are a romantic pair. You fight and tease and pick on each other. Maybe she was just looking to get the upper hand." Sue seemed sorry to say it, but that didn't make it sting any less.
"We were arguing," Nat frowned, "and I was teasing her. And she was getting mad. And you're... right."
"I'm sorry," Sue set a hand on Nat's shoulder, "just talk to her about it, and maybe things will work out for the better."
Nat nodded determinedly, "Right. I'll just talk to her. Easy done."
"Exactly!" Jean said, "and when you get married, Sue and I are definitely talking at your wedding!"
