Springtime.
The season of cherry blossoms. It's pretty when they're in full bloom— like a blanket of pink covering the city. When it's petals fall, it flies around the city. Truly a sight to behold.
Mizuki likes this time of the year. From the rooftop, they watch the petals swirl around the courtyard. Sometimes they wish they could be a petal in the wind. Blending in with the crowd and flowing freely; no restraints. Maybe in their next life. They'll let reincarnation do it's thing.
Mizuki's thoughts were interrupted by a certain purple haired boy. They heard the rooftop doors open and turned to the source of the sound. "Mizuki?" Rui questioned while closing the door behind him. He was holding his lunch along with a notebook and a pencil. "Rui." Mizuki waved in acknowledgment. "Why are you up here?" They'd usually see him out eating with his group.
"Needed a peaceful place. It's quieter up here." He simply answered. He awkwardly smiled at Mizuki. It wasn't much, but it was enough to send butterflies into their stomach. They smiled back and gestured to the empty space beside them. Rui took the invitation and sat down in the space beside them. Mizuki just continued watching the cherry blossoms.
"How are things with Tsukasa and the others?" Mizuki broke the silence. If they're being honest, they were comfortable with the silence. It didn't feel awkward or anything. The two have known eachother long enough to be past the awkward phase. They understand eachother well.
"They're doing fine. Speaking of which, I'm brainstorming ideas for our new show," Rui started to ramble about ideas. It was a habit of his that Mizuki was used to. Back in middle school, they would have moments like this.
Only difference is, they were more depressed back then.
Mizuki made sure to pay attention to every single detail. The way he scratched the back of his neck, looked to the side, gestured with his hands, everything. They nodded along to let him know they were listening. They asked questions. All these little moments were stored in Mizuki's head. All stored in one special place.
For a moment, it felt like the world stopped. It was like they were isolated in their own little bubble. Away from the prying eyes of others. Mizuki wanted to stay like this forever. Maybe if they were selfish, just this once, Mizuki could steal a kiss and-
The door flung open to reveal one of Rui's troupe members: Tsukasa. "Rui!" He bent over and gasped for air. "I was- I was looking everywhere- for you." He said between breaths. "I ran everywhere!" He scolded Rui lightly. It made Mizuki chuckle a little bit. Tsukasa stopped and turned his attention to Mizuki. "Oh- hi Mizuki!" He said brightly with a toothy grin. What a mood swing. "Hiya." They waved back. "Sorry for interrupting you and Rui, but we really have to get going! I need his opinion on something." He rushed his words and stumbled over them a little, but he got the point across.
Mizuki waved it off. "It's fine! I understand." They answered casually. "Now run along now." They shooed them away with their hands. "See you soon." Rui mouthed to them before he got dragged off by Tsukasa. Once they were out of sight, Mizuki just sighed. They really wished they took the chance but at the same time, they're glad they didn't.
