3rd September 1943 1:47am - Day 1
The sound of crickets filled the air; the sky a dark blue. Merida glanced over to her clock, 1:47am; she hadn't slept all night, too consumed with thoughts from supper. This boy, Enoch. So similar to her beloved David, was it a trick? Some higher power toying with her emotions?
She sat up, her eyes drifting to the window; the night air slowly drifting in. The moon bright. Slowly she stood up, making her way out of the window, scaling down the side of the home. Making her way to the backyard, she carefully and selectively chose where to step - making sure not to be too noisy.
Once in the yard, she found a place to focus; under the safety of a willow tree. Merida closed her eyes, focusing all her energy on one person, "Please..." she breathed as she carefully opened one eye.
Nobody.
"Fuck." She rasped while looking around, before slamming her hand to the ground. "Is this a joke?" She asked the open, still air. "Every other time!" She whispered as she stood up, giving one final glance before making her way to the house. She felt weird.A tingling feeling ran up her spine, giving her a shiver. She looked from left to right. Nobody. She hesitated, standing still, she glanced up. A figure in the window.
She couldn't tell.
Real?
No, why would anyone be awake right now?
Not real?
Obviously, her clairvoyance wasn't working before, why would it now? Unless it did work?
She eyed the figure a little longer, she knew they were looking at each other.
No. It didn't.
This was real.Hastily, she made her way to the front yard, scaling the vines on the front of the home. Making her way towards a window, she climbed in. Looking around the room, she noticed something different; drawings on the walls, an empty, messy bed. Something then collided with her back, hard but soft, groaning, she fell forward. "What the-"
"Get out!" A voice came from behind her. She turned to be met with a flying pillow at her face. "Who are you!" The voice was allowing for answers before the pillow came at Merida again.
"Millard!" The girl rasped, "Millard! Stop!" She held out her hand as the whacks soon stopped.
"Merida?" The boy breathed, the girls eyes darted around the room, unable to see him.
"Yes..." she breathed heavily, "You just woke up the whole house..." she said as she tried to calm herself, she furrowed her eyebrows, "Even if I was an intruder, what are you gonna do with a damn pillow?"A sigh came from the girls right as she saw the bed dip, "Thats besides the point." He spoke while making himself comfortable, "What were you doing?"
"Nothing." The girl said simply, "I thought this was my room." She said as she looked over the room and saw Horace sleeping soundly in the other bed.
"Obviously not."
"Obviously not."
The girl then stood up, making her way towards the direction of the boy- the girl heard footsteps coming in the distance, "If I were you, I'd pretend to be asleep." The boy quickly got under the covers, and Merida stood above him, whispering assuring words to him.
The door to the room swung open, revealing a tired Miss Peregrine, "Millard, is everything alright?"
The boy stirred awake, "Sorry Miss..." he whispered tiredly, "Just a bad dream... Thats all."
"Oh my Dear Boy..." she cooed, while looking to Merida, "Thank you for calming him."
The girl nodded, "Its okay, Miss, I was just really worried..." the girl turned to Millard, sending him a wink. Before standing up straight, "Goodnight..." she whispered before walking out the door. As she looked up the hall, trying to remember her room, she saw one of the doors closing; the second from the right. The girl eyed the door frame for a second, remembering the figure that caused her to do hastily climb inside.Merida shook it off before walking to her room, opening the door carefully, she peaked inside — making sure it was indeed her room. She took a deep breath before walking in; as soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out cold.
