Chapter III: Alone
Valencia Noor
"You need to bathe, mother." I crossed my arms, standing my ground.
"If I wanted to fucking bathe, I would bathe."
I fought back things that could come off as rude. There is really no nice way to say it, though.
"You made it so you only bathe once a week and tonight's the night."
"Fine but I can do it myself." She started struggling to stand up. I walked over and put my hand on her arm, trying to help. "Don't fucking touch me."
Sighing, I decided to obey her wishes and stand back, to watch the struggle.
She made a lot of noises, grunts, complaints, whines, heavy breathing. I think this is something you never fully get accustomed to.
Once she was finally up, her first step was only to greet the floor with a scream. "Mom?!"
She rolled onto her back, clutching her heart, still trying to scream but no sound came out. She looked up at the ceiling in horror with wide eyes. "Mom?" Oh my god.
I ran to the phone, dialing 9-1-1.
Only a few moments later, they ran in, I led them to the living room and everything in me told me she was already gone. I knew one day this would happen, but that knowledge didn't stop the numbness spreading through my body. It's not every day you see a dead body, especially one of a parents.
After a few moments, time felt unreal. A man walked up to me and apologized. "We're going to take her out of here for you. You will be contacted in the morning for the plans."
I nodded. What else am I supposed to do?
"Again, I am very sorry for your loss."
I turned around and looked out the kitchen window when they were taking her body out. How could it happen this fast? Does time have any consideration? I received more pity and before I knew it, I was alone.
