After we left the prison and got far enough away we were able to relax a little, or at least know that we were away from the attackers, which Ty later told me was the Governor, and away from the source of the noise. Any walkers nearby would be heading that way now and we got lucky when we left. All walkers had moved to the front of the prison, giving us a clear path out of the red zone.
Eventually Judith calmed down and napped, resting her head on my shoulder and I walked with her in my arms, rubbing her back and my stepps were rocking her to sleep. I even hummed a song I heard Beth singing to her once or twice. It was out of tune of course but Judith didn't seem to mind.
Lizzie and Mica were walking behind me, kind of keeping to themselves. Lizzie was being strong and pushing Mica to keep pushing on but poor Mica was still so scared I could hear her crying every so often. I wasn't sure how to help them, I wished I knew how to at least ease their worries a little.
"It's gonna get dark soon. Where are we going?" Lizzie finally asked us and we stopped. Ty and I looked at eachother not sure ourselves what the plan was.
"As far as we can for now" I answered to them serious then looked to Ty "can you take her for a bit?" I asked and he nodded and eagerly took Judith to hold her. I think maybe it calmed him like it did me. I finally let my arms fall to their sides, my muscles burning from holding her weight for so long. Ty started to walk on and I turned to Mica and Lizzie and waved for them to catch up.
Mica adjusted the knife on her belt then ran to catch up to us. I gave her a smile to show I was there for them
"Is everybody dead?" we both heard Lizzie ask suddenly, making Ty stop again, or at least slow down
"We don't know. come on...let's keep moving" I told her, trying to not think of who might and might not have made it out. We walked a few hours more as it got dark and I finally got the chance to wrap up Ty's arm from what looked like a bad burn and cut. I just figured a bullet might have grazed his arm.
I was just about finished when Judith started to fuss, putting Mica on edge.
"We'll be okay" I assured her as I moved to Judith and picked her up and held her in my arms trying to rock her and calm her
"We shouldn't be out here" Lizzie said
"We'll find a safe place soon" Ty assured her and looked between them and me "we will" he said and I nodded in agreement. Judith fussed and started to cry more, making me nervous as I checked her but she smelt fine so I started to look for the bag but Lizzie had beat me to it.
She walked over to us with a bottle and held it out for me to take which I gladly did and adjusted it to her mouth which she started to drink instantly. it was silent for a second when Mica quickly grabbed ahold on Ty's shirt
"walkers!" she whispered loudly, and looked around frantically.
"Ty, take Judith" I said and he took her instantly while looking at me confused. With my hands clear I pulled my bow from my shoulder and notched an arrow into the cord as I stood up and listened carefully, hearing the movement somewhere in the dark, but couldn't see anything.
I might have been okay from one sound but then the sound seemed to grow and slowly was surrounding us
"Let's go" I whispered to Ty and he nodded. The girls got up and got our things. We decided to just keep moving throughout the night, never stopping even if the girls were hoping to stop soon. Once the sun came up I was able to relax a little since now if something was coming at us we could see it.
"Judith was however starting to fuss again as we moved when I heard Mica mention something about grapes.
"Can we eat them?" Mica asked. I smiled and Ty told them they were good before I could. I saw Ty adjusting Judith in his arms again
