the pain in his legs was worsening every step as the little rocks that he encountered went deep into the sole of his foot; when he wasn't fast enough with his reflex leaves would slap against his face making him scrunch his nose in pain.
he wanted to show you that everything between you two was real, that you could trust him, that he was going to be there forever — or at least as long as he could.
but he ignored all of it as he kept going.
he knew that what he was doing was too important, not only for him but for you too.
so he pushed trough the physical pain with ease.
the problem was that he couldn't help but think about how he had left his family behind.
maybe that was what was really causing him so much pain, so much guilt.
the thought of leaving them.
he wasn't abandoning his siblings, he could've never done something like that, he would have fought with tears and blood for them.
and for his parents too.
but all his life he have had only two things contrasting in his mind: following his siblings into some reckless adventure or following his parents' rules.
and even if sometimes he could find a compromise.
most of the times there was a fight in his head between the two sides of the coin that was his brain.
but then you happened.
and you took over his heart.
so even if neteyam had always preferred to follow his brain more than his heart, he found himself running into the darkness that was the forest — hoping to come back alive.
his breath was erratic, and he thought that if his lungs would've been alive they would've screamed at him to stop.
but he also knew that if his heart was alive he would've told him to keep running and ignore everything else.
