My heart swelled with pride as I looked down at my family.
My son.
A strand of hair matted to my wife's forehead with sweat, and I tucked it behind her ear before kissing her on the forehead.
"You alright?"
She looked up at me and nodded, tears blurring her eyes, yet I've never seen her so happy. "He's perfect, Kai."
I looked back down at our newborn son. A full head of black hair, thick black eyebrows that he'd inherit from my father, and his mothers button nose. He's everything I'd ever wanted.
He had yet to open his eyes, but he looked so at peace sleeping in Nik's arms— like he already felt safe with her. Safe with us.
"You want me to get them?" My little boy had people outside waiting to meet him, and my wife had people wanting to see if she was okay.
She shook her head slowly as she gazed down at our son. "Not yet. I want a little more time with the two of you."
I smiled as I rubbed my lips against her hairline. My heart felt so full that it brought tears to my eyes. "He kind of makes me want another one."
Her breathy laugh made his eyes slowly blink open as he stared up at us.
"He looks just like you." We both said in awe. God, he was so perfect. They were so perfect.
He fussed a little, and when Banks stroked his cheek with the pad of her finger, he calmed down.
"Mommy's boy already, huh?" I never knew it was possible I could instantly love someone so much.
His little arms got themselves out of his little blanket, and he started reaching for— for me.
I hesitantly held my hand out, and his hand grabbed hold of my pointer finger.
Banks laughed, and I felt my cheeks getting wet. I was going to love her and this kid with everything I had.
It had always been me and her, and now it was us.
