King stood all alone on the fresh grave of his Queen. His eyes stared blankly at the dark soil that now separated him from the one he loved. Six months had passed since her death, yet the pain of her absence haunted him every single day.
His heart was heavy, drowned in memories of his beloved Queen. The weight of her not being there was overwhelming. In that moment, he felt lost and alone, unable to imagine a future without her by his side. The grief consumed him, and he wondered if he would ever escape its suffocating grasp.
The day she died replayed in his mind like a haunting nightmare. The war had raged on, and despite the brave efforts of his soldiers, they were overpowered by the enemy. In the final battle, the Queen, against his wishes, had joined the fight. He watched in horror as she fell to an enemy sword, lifeless and cold.
Since that day, the King became a mere shadow of himself. He went through the motions of ruling the kingdom, but his heart was absent. The people mourned not only the loss of their Queen but also the loss of their King, who was now a mere shell of his former self.
A message from an oracle arrived one day, foretelling that the King would never find happiness again. A curse of eternal sadness hung over him like a dark cloud. Sebastian knew, deep down, that this prophecy held a cruel truth.
His happiness was gone, and his Queen would never return. Life without her would never be the same, and the void in his heart seemed impossible to fill.
Alone and burdened with sadness, he tried to be strong for his family and his people. However, in moments of solitude, all he could feel was the overwhelming sadness and despair that gripped his soul.
He reminisced about the day he met her—the most beautiful woman with eyes that sparkled like stars and a smile that illuminated the room. Their love had blossomed quickly, and together they had ruled the kingdom, dreaming of raising their children.
A cold wind cut through him, causing the leaves to rustle. He closed his eyes, attempting to hold back tears that threatened to spill over.
"Your Highness," a soft voice interrupted from behind. It was Robert, his trusted advisor. "It's time to return to the palace. You've been out here for hours."
The king sighed and nodded, knowing that Robert spoke the truth. He took one last glance at the grave before following his advisor back to the waiting carriage. During the journey, Robert tried to engage in small talk, but the king remained lost in his thoughts.
Back at the palace, the king retreated to his chambers, feeling more isolated than ever. Seated at his desk, he stared at an empty piece of parchment.
"Your Highness," a voice interrupted again. It was Amelia, his chambermaid and nanny since childhood. "I've brought you tea and biscuits. Perhaps it will calm your nerves."
The king forced a smile, taking a sip of the warm tea. "Thank you, Amelia. You always know how to make me feel better."
Amelia smiled back, sensing the pain in his eyes. "Is there anything else I can do for you, Your Highness?"
After a moment's hesitation, the king asked, "Amelia, do you believe in second chances?"
Amelia looked at him with compassion. "Yes, Your Highness. I believe everyone deserves a second chance."
The king nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope for the first time in months. Perhaps, just maybe, he could find happiness again.
