Cursed Wings

Chapter 1

"GET HER!"
"BURN HER AT THE STAKE!"
Angry villagers chased me through the dusty streets of our- their village. I had been caught eating light and my fellow Avians were not happy. I didn't understand what was wrong and I tried to apologize but they started throwing rocks. I started running since I didn't know how to fly. They yelled for other Avians to help catch me and called me a witch. I climbed up one of our tree houses so I could try and glide away. I get to the wood take off platform and an elderly woman walks out in front of me. "Mrs. Moore!" I said, startled and afraid she would prevent me from escaping. We had always gotten along well and she had basically become my mother but many of the people chasing me had been kinda nice. "Oh, Blue. What have you gotten yourself into this time?" She said as she knelt down and put a gentle hand on my cheek and wiped away one of my tears. She wrapped her bark grey wings around me in a quick hug. She pulled away and pointed west into a thicket of trees. "There are some good friends of mine that will take care of you but you must find them. They move quickly and never stay anywhere more than a night at most. An odd group but powerful and kind." She said. Mrs. Moore hugged me one more time and I started running and jumped, slowly gliding down just as the villagers got onto the platform. "Why did you help that witch?" A man asked. She didn't answer and when I turned back I saw one of them kill her. "NOOO!" I yelled. They looked at me surprised but didn't chase me. I quickly found out why cause when I turned my head back around I crashed into the trees. I tried to wrap my wings around myself to no avail. The branches scratched and cut my arms, face, and back. After a moment it stopped and I hit the ground, landing on my side. Out of instinct, I put my wings around me to break my fall and when I landed I heard a loud snap, signaling that I had broken, sprained, or dislocated one of my wings. I tried to sit up but my head was spinning and I blacked out.
