Absolutely Not, but...

The day had been exhausting for Sunghoon. It’d been long and tedious and he wanted nothing more than to be lying in his bed staring at the ceiling. He was thankful his flatmate were pretty quiet people. Honestly, despite being a group of three alpha friends, they were considerably calm. That, however, did not mean they weren’t loud occasionally.

Today was, unfortunately, one of those occasions. He could hear Jake and Heeseung talking loudly in the living-room; Sunghoon felt his eye twitch. It didn’t matter much; he could probably walk past them and, once in his room, he’d be tired enough to fall asleep in spite of the constant murmuring. He was good at tuning out people, he could do it to get a nap before dinner.

But then he caught a couple of stray words from their conversation, his interest was piqued.

“But you think he’ll agree?” Jake seemed unsure about it, like he was voicing his scepticism.

“To spend our rut with us or…?” Heeseung questioned, they had obviously been talking about more than one thing. Sunghoon couldn’t help but wonder who they were talking about.

“The first part,” Jake clarified. “I mean, I don’t think… he’s the type.”

“Well, I think he is, he just doesn’t know it,” Heeseung sounded confident. “Besides, it’s not like asking is weird, he can always say no.” Sunghoon couldn’t see him, but he imagined Heeseung shrugging.

“I really want to spend it with him,” Jake sighed.

“Me too, seriously,” Heeseung agreed. “I hope he says yes,” he added, showing he wasn’t as assured as he was pretending to be.

Sunghoon decided he should stop listening in to their conversation. There was something about it that simply didn’t sit right with him, but he wasn’t sure what. He didn’t even know who they wanted to ask, so it wasn’t like he could be jealous. Though, maybe he was envious they had someone to ask. He didn’t think that to be the case, but he also couldn’t come up with any other reason. He felt his stomach twisting the more he thought about it, he really needed that nap.

When he woke up, he’d been so disoriented he almost completely forgot he had heard them talking at all. He was still lethargic, when he heard knocking on his door. It had to be either Heeseung or Jake, since he doubted anyone would come without calling or texting first. Besides, he couldn’t think of a reason for anyone to come looking for him in the middle of the week. He made an unintelligible noise and Heeseung opened the door.

“Jake’s almost done making dinner,” Heeseung informed him. Sunghoon just hummed, still not fully conscious. “Also, I… we wanted to ask you something.”

Had Sunghoon been a little more awake, he might have been able to connect the dots. As it was, Sunghoon had no clue what Heeseung may want to ask him. He half opened one eye to look over to where Heeseung was standing and nodded his head for Heeseung to continue talking. They had a system to communicate for these cases, it worked four out of five times.

“Okay, so…” Heeseung started and he seemed hesitant and nervous. “You know our rut is coming soon…” At that Sunghoon opened both eyes, something in his brain was connecting information, though it wasn’t enough to reach a conclusion yet. “And we were wondering if… you’d spend it with us.”

“What?” Sunghoon asked, brain still sluggish. Something in Heeseung’s request didn’t sound right.

“Uh… you know, if you’d help us?” Heeseung reworded his question, but it still didn’t sound right to Sunghoon. It just didn’t make sense.

“How? Why?” Sunghoon sat up, he was brought into consciousness by the ridiculousness of the situation.

“You can say no, you know, you don’t need to make it sound like I’ve gone crazy,” Heeseung laughed at Sunghoon’s confused expressions.
