"I asked a question,"

I was taken out of my stupor by her voice. I looked back at the girl nervously. I could feel the cold dampness of sweat sliding down my neck.

"Are you deaf or has the cat got your tongue?" she said with arrogant amusement laced in her voice.

Nervousness didn't stop me from rolling my eyes, the other Colors were always like this, arrogant and rude. I felt like pushing past the Blue, but I knew that would just cause more trouble.

"No, I am not deaf, I can hear you loud and clear," I replied, trying my best to mask the annoyance in my voice.

"That's more like it, thought I had a bionic on my hands,"

Bionics were robots that appeared disturbingly similar to humans, I was most definitely not one of those things. The Grey citizens weren't even allowed to use them in the first place.

"Oh. I forgot you guys are too poor for those things, right?" she asked.

It wasn't a secret that Grey was the most financially troubled Color, but having this girl point it out so bluntly still made my face heat up with anger.

"We don't need robots to do our chores. In Grey, we do our own work,"

The bionics were effectively maids for the other Colors. They did everything that the Colors couldn't be bothered doing: cook, clean, work and never got tired or felt the need to rest.

"Anywho, back to more important matters. You're a Grey, right? I thought they all had those dull eyes, do they allow contacts in Grey?"

In any other circumstance, I would not let some stupid girl question me about my eyes, but she was a Blue, I was practically obligated to do whatever she said or I could end up in an even harsher situation than I was already. I let out a frustrated breath before replying.

"This is my natural eye color. I was told there was a slip up during my Altering and this was the result,"

Altering was what the doctors did to you before you were born. Before you were even close to being born, it's why everyone's eye color corresponds to their Color. Well, everyone except me.

After hearing my reply, the corner of the girl's lips curled to form a smile. I was surprised to see a genuine smile on the Blue's face, she didn't strike me as the cheerful type. Her lips were the color of strawberries and her dark hair seemed to frame her face perfectly when she smiled.

"Is that what they told you? Sorry, to break it to you Calvrinkt, but it's a bit more complicated than that,"

My heart skipped a beat at the mention of my full name, no one other than my family called me by that, and even then it was rare. I never used my full name, no matter what the situation, yet this Blue knew my name; something was definitely wrong. I could feel my whole body tense up as I spoke.
