Malfoy couldn't believe his eyes when he saw that Harry and Ron were still at Hogwarts next day, looking tired but perfectly cheerful. He couldn't believe his luck either, Violet hadn't found out because otherwise she would've had him by the hair by now and the two dimwits didn't get themselves expelled, so he got to live another day. The thing that did freak him out though was the fact that he wasn't glad that Violet because she would be mad, he realised that he actually cared whether or not she wanted to keep being friends with him. It was a new feeling. With his other friends, neither of them had a choice at first, they found each other as the outcasts and kind of stuck together for better or worse. With Violet, she had no obligation to put up with him or to include him or to be his friend, so that meant he had to make an effort if he truly wanted them to be friends.
