The coarse, ragged breaths of a strained heroine sounded through the silence of a battle field. Each one yanked at every possible string of surviving despite the endless sea of misery and death.

"I can't do this." The petite woman gasped, gripping the pocket watch around her waist.

Two other females jerked their heads at the comment that was just barely making itself heard past the painful sharp inhales.

"Wait--"

"I'm still young! I shouldn't be here!" The distressed whined. Her numb body shuffled through the mountain of debris she stood upon. The female's heel clicked against the concrete pile. A small gasp yanked out of the lady's bruised lips at the second of uneven ground. "I'm sorry! But I'm going home!"

The furious sounds of a rising monstrosity howled through the reddening sky. The ground rumbled with each thunderous stomp the opposition made. A mass of dark fog obscured every chance at watching the sun bid its last farewell.

Hands pale from gripping the pocket watch, the cowering female turned on her heel, bolting in whatever direction her senses of self-preservation appeared best.

"No, no, no! Wait! Come back!"

Bellowing cries echoed into the darkness, gradually muffling into a steady mechanical ringing. Mundane sheets rustled, and birds sang their dearly sweet songs. The groans of a high schooler huffed through the first few seconds of the shaking alarm clock.

Heavy footsteps pounded against the hallway that waited outside of the bedroom door. A swinging door and a screaming middle-aged woman drowned the persistent ringing of the clock.

"Rina, wake up already! I have a meeting in thirty minutes!" Mrs. Hirasaki complained, slamming the door behind her. Angry steps spoke of an impatience that wasn't to be trifled with.

Gentle rays of sunshine reflecting off of the slick wooden floorboards blinded Rina's half-lidded eyes. The female reached out, silencing the screaming alarm clock. The cold morning air packed into the bedroom stung any skin that dared to poke out of her blanket. The female stretched her body, stomping her way through the room to the wardrobe. Her pale fingers picked out the first set of blouses and skirts her half-lidded eyes could see.

With her school uniform on, Rina scrambled to her bathroom, finalizing anything else on her morning look. Soon after finishing, Rina reunited with her mother at the front door. Kneeling forward to grab her shoes, she refused to make eye contact with her impatient mother.

"I'm sorry for yelling," Mrs. Hirasaki apologized,  holding her daughter's winter coat out towards the smaller female. "This promotion is putting me on edge." She said as she rubbed her forearm. Her tone of guilt tainted the morning atmosphere. "Go ahead and get breakfast at that cafe you like so much. I have to get going now," Rina's mother held out a handful of allowance, leaning forward to kiss her daughter's forehead before taking her leave from the house.

Rina grabbed the money, quickly sliding her coat on and nodding her mother's affection away. With her bag around her torso, the student stepped out of the house, locking the front door and plopping the silver keys into her pocket before she strolled out into the sidewalk.

"I love you!" With the car window rolled down, Mrs. Hirasaki beamed a bright smile. She waved her relaxed daughter farewell before driving the rest of her way down the street.

"Bye bye!" A cheerful voice hollered as a slender female slid past the front gate of her house. Her blonde-hair blended elegantly with the blue sky above.

A happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. Horikawa followed along until the closed gate, making a picturesque image with the garden of roses and hydrangeas that have been covered with a fresh coat of morning dew.
