THIS WAS ALL HER FAULT. PERCY was mortally injured, and it was her fault. Her fault for not cutting the stupid web on her ankle. Her fault for bringing her precious boyfriend into this awful mess. She shut her eyes and started to sob, fresh tears streaming down her face. She thrust her head into her grimy hands and cried full out. No one would come running, nobody would hear. Nobody was here to comfort her.

Her body was wracking with the terrible sobs, and she could not register the pain coming from her ankle. The emotional pain was just to great.

A thought struck her. What would Percy say? Her wails were reduced to soft sobs. Well, she reasoned, He would comfort me and say he was sorry. And he would say to rest and gather ourselves up before we move again. She stopped crying. The thought of Percy's strong, muscular arms wrapping around her and his deep melodic voice had calmed her down quite a bit. A low moan interrupted her thoughts.

She whipped her head around and looked at her boyfriend. He looked ghastly; his face was as white as milk and his coal-black hair stuck to his forehead. One eye was swollen shut, and the other was barely open. His normally shining sea green eye was dull and unfocused.

He only muttered one word. One word to relive her that everything was gonna be okay.

"WiseGirl?"

She gasped in relief and hobbled over to him again. His head was turned towards her. She took his hand in hers and stroked his forehead sweetly.

"I'm here, Perce. It's gonna be okay." He let  a small puff out of his mouth and turned his head towards the ceiling again.

He coughed, and said weakly, "What are we-" cough "-going to-" cough cough "-do?" It was so soft, Annabeth could barely hear his voice.

She took her place, right next next to him, and listened to the screams and taunts floating through the dark mist.

"I don't know, Percy. We will figure things out soon."  And they sat like that, for a long time. Minutes, hours, days. It didn't matter, for they were content.

-------------------Oh don't mind me, I'm just a line break :)------------------

Annabeth woke to the sound of footsteps. Well, they were more like shuffles, but footsteps none the less. She held in her breath, and slowly and deliberately grasped Riptide, careful not to make a sound.

She then faced the direction of the noise, standing in front of Percy. Nobody, and she meant NOBODY, was going to hurt her boyfriend. He was her whole life, what she lived for. He was not getting out of her grasp again.

And the enemy showed itself.

Two hellhounds stalked out of the darkness, licking their lips in anticipation.

But these were no normal mastiffs.

Their eyes glowed bright copper, intelligent and malicious. They were the size of trucks, and their teeth jagged and long as her arm. Claws clicked on the rocky ground as the circled their next meal.

With a cry of, "Nobody touches my boyfriend!" she lept into action, dodging flying spit and the jaws of hungry hounds. Her ankle was killing her, but she managed to vault herself onto the back of one vicious dog. It reared and bucked, but she stayed on. She was about to stab it when its brother bounded towards her, jaws gaping.

But it never got there.

A blur of black and blond intercepted it, and a  pure black sword protruded from its neck. It disengaged, and seeing that's its brethren was dead, the one she was riding threw her off and sprinted away. She landed with a thud next to Percy, the wind knocked out of her lungs. She whirled around to face the new attacker, who was staring at her in shock.

"Annabeth?"
