I stare at the note as a chill traveled down my spine. Its just probably some mistake the professor made. After all, she could've done one of the letters wrong. Or it could be a French name of some sort with a meaning behind it - or any language. Perhaps the pronunciation of it was actually Vampeere Academy. Besides, vampires weren't real and if they were, I'd need evidence because I would never believe it without proof. But in a way, it made sense, well it would definitely explain the creepy-looking school and my strange aunt.
I shook my head and scolded myself to stop being stupid.
I suddenly remembered the bell rang earlier. I had completely lost track of time! The corridor was empty except for me standing there by myself. I was planning to ask someone where my class was but now it was too late. I glanced around worriedly. Now I would have to face my first day at this school late. Its happened before and I got a lot of attention and gossip. And trust me when I say that you don't want that but its impossible to avoid it, late or not late, if you are new, it will always happen.I ran down the long corridor full of lockers and the exceptional offices. Once I reached the end of the corridor, there was a spiral staircase leading up to the second, third and fourth story. I climbed the stairs to the second story and like downstairs, there was another long corridor, but this time, full of doors that led into seperate classrooms. I once again ran down the long corridor passing room after room until I found room ten. I stopped at the door, fixed up a strand of hair here and there, and then I nervously walked in.
The teacher finished writing on the chalk board and turned my way. He looked me up and down and then placed his chalk on the bench beneath the board. Charles had short hair on the sides and long hair on the top middle of his head. He had green emerald eyes, a short-stubbled beard and wore a red T-shirt with black jeans.
"You must be the new girl", he said in a smooth, almost bored voice.
"Yes. I'm sorry I'm late".
"Well, I can't blame you for being late. After all, you are new to this school but from tomorrow onwards - I expect you to be on time".
I nodded and found a spare seat next to a girl. Some students snickered at me as I passed but I ignored them. I was used to it. The one thing that strucked me though was that everyone in the class - including the teacher Charles; looked really good in physical appearance. They all looked pretty and handsome with rich hair colours and unblemished faces. And there I was, just a normal - not even that good looking girl well at least I thought.
I glanced at the girl sitting next to me. She had chocolate brown hair that was braided in two neat plaits to the side and a side fringe that almost covered her entire left eye. I looked at her and she smiled. I smiled back, hoping it was the right thing to do. I was about to say hi when Charles started talking.
"Good morning class", he announced as he ticked off some type of list, probably a roll. "As you all know, the new girl's name is Adele Lockhart. She is fairly new, so I would like you all to make her feel welcome".
Some students turned to stare and whisper at me whilst a bunch of students; two girls and one boy - the ones that snickered before - scoffed in my direction and replied in a mocking voice saying "Your welcome".
These were obviously the students which would be the school bullies. I turned to them and gave them the death stare.
I suddenly remembered the girl sitting next to me and faced her.
"Hi", I said.
"Hey", she replied with a polite smile, I'm Hailey in case you're wondering".
In every school, I always managed to find someone who was kind. They were usually the people who you could make friends with easily.
"I can give you a tour of the school later if you'd like", she added.
"I'd love that", I smiled. So far, I wasn't going too bad at making friends.
"Adele, stop talking", the teacher said in a stern voice.
I was lucky my hair was down and hid parts of my face because my cheeks flushed a pink colour as I stopped talking and tuned my attention to the teacher.
"First lesson up is PE. Make sure you have your equipment for it ready. You know how coach Garreth is like. I wouldn't disappoint him if I were you", he looked in my direction, probably so I would get the hint.
As soon as the teacher announced this, all the students rushed there and pushed each other to get through the small door. It shocked me how impatient some people could be. Within a minute, all the students were walking off to the gym and the only ones remaining in the room was Hailey, Charles and I.
"Adele?" The teacher asked.
"Yes?"
"Here's your timetable". He picked up a sheet of paper lying on his work-filled bench and handed it to me. It had the days and subjects presented neatly in a graph.
I picked it up, said thanks and walked out the door with Hailey.
I was eager to see what subjects I had but I couldn't just walk around reading and not watching where I was going. I made a mental note to read what subjects I had later and then placed it in my bag gently so it wouldn't get scrunched up.
The class was already heading up the steps so Hailey and I ran to keep up. There was no way I was getting late with the guy Charles had explained about earlier. From the sounds of it, he was going to be a horrible teacher and undoubtfully, a bossy one too.
