Sam hissed in pain as Y/n gave the fabric of the bandage a particularly harsh tug. "God, Y/n, easy!"
Y/n just gritted her teeth in response, wrapping the bandage around his chest and adding another layer.
"You're so stupid," Y/n grumbled.
Sam held back a sigh, looking up at the ceiling in exasperation. "I know-"
"No, you don't," Y/n gritted, pulling again, and Sam grunted in pain at the new tightness around his chest and against the bruise slowly forming there.
Y/n didn't even blink an eye at his obvious discomfort. "You're an idiot. A reckless idiot."
"Y/n-"
"I mean, who just jumps in a building on fire!" Y/n sneered, throwing her hands up in the air.
The bandage dropped and began to unravel, but Sam grabbed it before it could become too loose.
"Idiots!" Y/n dug the heels of her hands into their eyes and took a deep, shuddering breath. "Idiot."
Sam's heart sunk at the sound of her voice breaking.
"Y/n." He scooted forward on the bed and took one of her hands gently in his own, guiding it away from her face.
Her e/c eyes shone in the light, but thankfully he didn't spot any tears. He carefully let go of the end of the bandage and moved his other hand up to her face, stroking her cheekbone with his thumb.
"I'm okay," he whispered reassuringly.
Y/n closed her eyes and leaned into his touch. "Sam, do you realise just how terrifying that was for me?"
His eyes clouded over with guilt, but Y/n continued before he could say anything. "I know you're Captain America and go on all these dangerous missions, but when I see you doing stunts like this, it scares the crap out of me."
"Hey," Sam whispered, turning her face so she was back at looking at him. "I'm sorry I scared you."
He leaned forward and kissed Y/n's forehead before pulling her into his warm embrace. "I promise, I won't do it again."
Y/n snorted, her body melting under his touch. "We both know that's not true."
She pulled back to look him in the eye, her e/c eyes stern but soft. "And I know you won't listen to me. But just ... be careful, okay? Please try not to fly into another building on fire."
Sam chuckled and leaned his head gently against her, taking a deep breath in before letting it out slowly. "I will. I promise."
Y/n smiled as she moved forward to kiss his exposed collarbone before snuggling into his chest. "I love you, Sam."
Sam smiled and pulled Y/n closer, brushing his lips across her h/c hair. "I love you too, Y/n."
