Chapter 1: Summer Vacation
June first 2026
I turn my head and stare at the clock counting down the seconds until school ends . Five, I hear the announcements start, four, three,two, Suddenly I hear the voice of hundreds of students running out of their classrooms and I follow. I head to my locker that has already been cleaned and grab my bag. All I have to do now is attend graduation and then I'm gone. I don't remember much about the graduation ceremonyI just remember the rush afterwards of trying to catch our flight to Turkey.
My family arranged a trip to see family and friends in Turkey. I am not fully Turkish (my mom is Turkish and dad is from France) but I can speak Turkish almost fluently and am learning French. After the ceremony I said goodbye to my four friends and rushed with my family to the car that already contained all our luggage. We drove to the airport, sprinted through security and were on our flight. I had to sit next to my little brother whose name is Easton (couldn't my parents come up with anything except cardinal directions as names). He is three years younger than me which made the flight miserable because of all of his talking. After we landed we retrieved our bags and once we got to the hotel, collapsed onto the beds. That was before I knew about the war.
Now I know what abandoning life feels like. During the middle of break, I was on my phone and suddenly a bunch of notifications hit my phone. I read some of the news alerts in a panic and discovered that the U.S was in a civil war. I immediately ran to my parents
"UNITED STATES CIVIL WAR!!" I yelled
"What do you mean?" my dad said finally waking up at 12:00 pm
Right then my brother came out of his room into our parents'
"WAR IN THE U.S!!" he yelled
My mom then suddenly jumped awake
"What are you saying" She said
"Pick up your phones and see" East said
That was when our lives changed. My mom got a job first because she went to school in Turkey and got her pHd in Turkey too (also how she was born in Turkey). It took my dad a bit longer but we bought an apartment and my brother and I got temporary jobs. Also my brother decided to start going to school again. So we are doing fine and we had our furniture in the U.S sold and other stuff shipped to Turkey. I miss my friends Mabel and James. I heard Mabel went to London and James stayed in the U.S to fight. I respect him for that though usually he is very frustrating and annoying. I hope to go to Britain for college and to see Mabel, and maybe even go back to the U.S to do something for the military, and maybe just maybe to see James. Now I just have to wait and follow whatever my life has in store for me.
