Deidara winces as he sits on the giant bird he's made of C4 clay, Sasori sat behind him. One of Sasori's hands is gripping Deidara's matted shirt for dear life while the other is trailing up and down Deidara's body. A green glow emits against the night sky of the sand village as they make their escape from the jutsu Sasori is using to heal Deidara's wounds.

He wonders where Sasori learned such a thing, but he doesn't ask. There's a lot of questions he knows better than to spring on the older (?) man lest he get jabbed with poison. So, he sits there, debating on what to say. At the very least, the silence is uncomfortable. Both of them are low on Chakra, and yet, Sasori is using what little of it he has left to heal the stab wounds Deidara has from Kakashi the Copy Ninja's kunai. Thousands of feet beneath them, Deidara can hear the chaos coming from The Sand Village.

"Hm, Sasori, I'm surprised you got us out of that one," Deidara mutters and scratches his chin. His other hand is used to steer the clay bird. Said bird is flying them back to The Hidden Rain Village where the Akatsuki's base is, but he knows they'll have to stop soon to recover their Chakra. Hell, they don't even have enough Chakra to contact Pein through telepathy jutsu. The image of Sasori sacrificing Hiruko plays back in his mind. Naruto, the ninth Jinchuriki, sent a flying Rasengan Deidara's way. Deidara had no time to dodge, but before it could hit, Sasori exited Hiruko and sent the puppet in Deidara's direction to take the hit. Deidara wishes he knew why. "We lost the Kazekage before we could harvest the Jinchuriki, but at least we're alive, right?"

"I'm surprised we're alive right now, and I doubt we will be for much longer when the boss sees us, but I suppose we may as well enjoy what time we have left," Sasori muses with a small smile.

"Well, that's the point of life, hm," Deidara grins back. Sasori finishes healing him and snatches his hand away. The one hand is still grasping at what's left of the back of Deidara's undershirt. His Akatsuki cloak is long gone, blown to shreds in one of his many explosions. Sasori's is somehow still intact, draped over his lithe body. "To enjoy it because it's such a fleeting thing!"

"I sometimes envy that perspective of yours, as much as I've also grown to despise it," Sasori shakes his head, still smiling.

His smile is an odd sight. It's not one that Deidara sees all that often, to be honest, but he likes it just as much as he likes the rest of Sasori. As much as they tend to clash, he swears that most of it is just acting on their part to keep up the facade of hating each other so they don't have to admit they're true feelings. But, there's a good chance that with this being one of many failed missions in the last couple years, Pein will finally get sick of their shit and choose to do away with them. Deidara decides he may as well blow up the facade while he still has the time to.

"So, think we'll die in a few days when we get back to base?" Deidara half-jokes.

"Mm, probably. At least if Pein can figure out how to kill me."

"He doesn't know?"

"I haven't told him the details, no," Sasori shrugs.

"How come I know and he doesn't know?"

"You're my partner. My anatomy is important information for you to know in case something ever happens and you need to rebuild my body for me," Sasori tries to justify. He thinks Deidara is an idiot, and Deidara knows that, but he doesn't really care. Most people think he's dumber than he really is, anyway. There's a deeper reason than them being partners and tonight, as they leave The Sand Village, he's determined to find out exactly what it is. "For Pein, however, it bears no relevance- at least not in any way that could benefit the both of us- just him when he eventually decides he's ready to dispose of me."

"Hm," Deidara settles on that answer for now and thinks about the rest of the Akatsuki. Encountering them when he gets back is going to suck to say the least, perhaps even more than Pein's unbridled fury. "I'm dreading seeing him when we get back."
