Once we got to the beach is was everyone for themselves. Kim and Connor went running for the water laughing the whole way there, while Jackson and I walked through the sand. I loved feeling the sand crunch between my toes. The salt air filled my lungs and the sound of the Segal's were heard all around us.
"You don't have to walk with me. You could have run with them," I said briefly turning my head to look at him.
"I have to do enough running in practice, I think I could stick this one out," I smiled knowing how much he loves football, but also enjoys relaxing. I sat down on the sand watching my two friends splash around in the water for, what only seemed like a few minutes before more people started showing up. A few boys brought a table for beer pong and then a few others showed up with kegs. I could tell this was going to get out of hand really fast. I looked over to my group of friends who were already getting drinks. Now, I am not one to drink, because I like to be aware of my surroundings. Soon the beach became crowded and it seemed like there wasn't enough space on this small spot on the beach. I ended up grabbing a cup and filling it up halfway. I felt a shoulder bump into mine and I locked eyes with Jessie.
"I am sorry, did not mean to bump into you," I rambled looking down at the sand. He laughed at my shyness.
"You're good, its crowded anyway. You are bound to bump into someone tonight. Where are you friends? Would have expected to see them with you." He asked looking around. That was a good question seeing as I drove us all and now, they were nowhere to be found.
"They are here somewhere, but I am not sure where," I shrugged my shoulders. I looked at him and saw that he wasn't in his usual black clothes. He was wearing a white t-shirt and grey sweats. "What's with the outfit choice?" I asked pointing at his pants with my cup. He looked down at his pants and frowned.
"It's a kickback, I felt like being comfortable," I nodded and took a sip of my drink. He had a cup in his hand, but it looked empty.
"What don't tell me you don't drink now?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest. He grabbed my arm and moved me out of the way of some people before responding.
"I just finished what was in my cup, but it wouldn't be such a bad thing if i didn't drink,"
"Valkryie there you are. We have been looking... oh hi Jessie," Kim gave him an awkward wave before turning her attention to me. "Someone is trying to pick a fight with Jackson, and I think that should be our que to leave," Kim said. I looked at Jessie and turned to Kim. She took my hand and lead me through the crowd of people. Once we got closer to the shore, I could hear yelling and it wasn't Jackson's voice. I could hear Tyler's voice taunting at Jackson.
A little background of him. He doesn't have the best parent situation and a lot of people knew this and took advantage of this situation. Tyler and Jackson used to be good friends before Jackson decided he didn't want to be a dick to anyone anymore and hung out with people of his choosing.
There was a small circle forming around the two and I pushed my way to the front. Connor was standing directly next to Jackson. This situation could get out of hand very fast; Jackson is known for having a short fuse.
"You know Jackson, we all know the reason why mommy and daddy left you, pretty sure they knew how much of a turnout you would be," Tyler mocked him. I took my spot behind Connor with Kim a few feet from me. I grabbed Jackson's shoulder and stepped closer to him before whispering in his ear.
"I think it's time we head home, yeah?" He seemed to be frozen there, not listening to a word. I looked at Kim who motioned with her head to back off. We knew that once he was zoned out there was no turning him around. Connor knew this was going to end up in a fight. Jackson is way bigger than Tyler, but somehow Tyler thinks that Jackson won't throw the first punch.
"Jackson over here may be the quarterback, but that doesn't mean he didn't screw the whole cheerleading squad to get to where he is," I frowned at the statement knowing how untrue that was.
"Hey Tyler, don't you think you that you were the screwing all the girls? Or that your dad was the one who paid coach to get you on the team?" I spoke up earning a look back from Jackson. Tyler looked pissed.
"What did you just say? Hey Jackson, why don't you get your bitch in check," I looked over at Jackson who was clenching his jaw. "Last I heard she still needs some love after the only person who gave a shit about her died. How'd it happen again,"
"Watch it," Connor spoke up taking a step. I didn't want to hear any more, so I made my way back through the crowd and to my car. I sat in back waiting for the outcome. I hated that everyone knew about my mom. Soon the chaos died down and I saw the boys and Kim running for the car. The hopped in as fast as possible.
"I think it best if you drive off now," Connor said holding his side. I did as I was told and heading out of the beach. Everyone in the car was silent. I glanced over at Jackson who still looked pissed off. I dropped off Kim first, and then Connor.
"You okay?" I asked. He let out a big breath before saying anything.
"I'm cool, you think I can crash in your extra room? I don't really want to go and have my uncle and aunt worry about what happened." I noticed the black eye that was forming. I nodded at him.
I parked my car in the driveway and noticed my dad's car was gone, probably why I didn't receive and calls about my whereabouts. Jackson has been here many times and made his way upstairs to the extra room. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a bag and filled it with ice. I then grabbed an extra blanket for the sofa and made my way up the steps. I saw him sitting on the bed with his head in his hands.
"Here I brought you some ice and an extra blanket," I handed him each.
"Thanks, look about what he said..." I raised my hand to cut him off.
"Forget it, I'm okay. I could care less about what some asshole thinks of me or has to say, and you should know that he's just trying to get at you," I rubbed his back and headed for the door. "Get some sleep," I turned off the light and headed into my room. I looked in the mirror and noticed how dirty I looked. I got into the shower and once I was out, I combed through my dirty blonde hair and put it into two braids. I put on a tank top and my plaid sweatpants before turning off the light and heading to bed myself.
