I unlocked the door and peeked out into the hall. To my surprise Raye was nowhere to be seen. I cautiously proceeded down the hall to the stair case. I froze as I saw Raye sitting at the bottom of the stairs. I was about to take another step when the floor creaked under my weight. "Just my luck.", I sarcastically muttered under my breath. I tried running back to my room but it was no use, he had already seen me.
Despite the awkwardness of the current situation, I still turned and tried to go. "Your boss told me." He said in a monotone voice. "He told me all about how you came on to him and when he turned you down, you poured coffee in his face and quit."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Darian had twisted around the whole damn story. That lying bastard. "Its not what you think. He was coming on to me. The ONLY part of what he told you that was true is that I threw coffee on him and that's all that happened. And I quit."
Raye stood there and examined me for a few seconds then an apologetic smile appeared on his face but the smile faded away and was replaced with a look of anger and hatred as he looked at my hand. "Where is it?" He growled through his teeth.
"Where is what?" I asked having no idea what he was talking about.
"The ring, where is it?" This time his words getting more powerful.
I looked down at my hand expecting to see the ring resting securely on my finger only to find that it was gone. "I swear I never took it off. I can't think if any time where I would have been doing anything to where the ring would..."
~FLASH BACK~
Back at the office when I was making that coffee I still had it on but I remember feeling like I was missing something after Darian grabbed my arm and....
"DARIAN HAS THE RING!!" I remember now. When he grabbed my arm back at work I remember feeling his hand swipe across mine when he let go. Shit. How could I let this happen. I ran down the stairs to get my phone but instead I was greeted at the bottom with a cold blow to the face.
I hadn't even registered what happened as tears streamed down my face. As I was about to look up I got kicked in the stomach, then chest. The room seemed to be getting darker and the hits stopped for a moment. I gathered all the strength I had left and tried to crawl to the kitchen where my phone was, but Raye stood over me. Blocking my every attempt to get away.
Raye knelt down and roughly flipped me so that I was facing him. His eyes dark and merciless and his breaths heavy and filled with the stench of liquor. He brought up his fist again and met my face once again. This one harder than the first. I went numb. I couldn't really feel the next wave of kicks and hits but I knew they were still coming. I was closing my eyes near the point of letting go when suddenly the door burst open and I hear three gunshots and the sound if someone hitting the ground beneath them.
