The next time we met was at Rosswood again. This time, there was no mission, just a meeting arranged by me. As I saw the familiar masked figure of my friend approaching, I gathered all my courage and called out to him: “Over here, mask boi!” He broke into a sprint and hugged me tightly as soon as he reached me. This time though, he was careful not to almost crush me again.
“Hey, Hoods. What’s the matter? Why’d you leave me a note?”, he asked.
“Just wanted to hang out. Quality time with a friend y’know.”, I answered, smiling as I remembered how I snuck into Tim’s hotel room while he was asleep, leaving the note where only Masky would find it – In the drawer he kept the mask my friend was wearing now, after realizing he wouldn’t be free of him anytime soon.
The note had been nothing special, just a slip of paper reading:
“Meet me at Rosswood Park tomorrow, 12pm. -H”
Just in case Masky wouldn’t have known who H was, I drew a little frowning face next to it, reminiscent of the one on my ski mask.
Still, I hadn’t been sure, if Masky would get it in time, considering switching between the two states of mind had been and still was pretty inconsistent. Sometimes, he would be Tim for weeks, if not months, while at a different time he could be Masky for a while, not remembering anything afterwards. Although I was aware of that, I also knew, that I was somehow different. I couldn’t remember the last time I was Brian; I don’t think I have left this state ever since I slipped into it – In contrast to Masky, who I had seen as Tim a couple of times before. Other than that, I remembered everything Brian remembered, and assumed it was the same for Masky and Tim.
“Well then, what have you planned?” Masky asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Just a stroll through the woods, nothing special. Maybe leaving something for Jay at the hospital or the shack if you’re down. Messing with him a little and stuff. We gotta have our fun, now that Kralie’s no longer a problem.” I say, with a grin on my face Masky obviously couldn’t see.
“Sounds like a plan to me, although we better hurry. I don’t know how long it will take for Tim to come back. I left him a note though, in my – his – pocket, just in case. I think he deserves to know I’m just meeting a friend, not running around kidnapping someone or something like that.”
I laughed. That was typical Masky right there. Wouldn’t hesitate a second when violence is needed, always the first to fight back but still carefully looking out for his alter ego whenever he can.
We start walking, and after a few meters I ask: “But what would you write – if anything – if you were in fact running around kidnapping people?”
He pondered on that question for a moment, then turned his face towards me. Behind the mask I could feel his eyes locking onto mine. Well, the eyes drawn on the ski mask for that matter, but close enough.
“I don’t really know. But I guess if I was able to write something… I’d probably lie. Knowing he’s pretty uncomfortable with that kind of stuff and all, especially because it’s kinda him doing it as well. I wouldn’t want him to feel worse about himself… me… us.” Masky shrugged.
“That’s really sweet of you.” I smiled at him fondly although I knew he wouldn’t be able to see it. “Although, I doubt he would believe you. Aat least not after a while.”
We talked a lot while walking along one of the hiking trails, taking a quick detour to the abandoned hospital to leave a little message for Jay to decode.
While I was with Masky I could almost forget what happened and I had to admit, it felt kind of like the old days. Time with him seemed to fly, and I found myself enjoying his company more than I thought I would.
Turns out, the part of me wanting to forgive him, the part longing for the time we were friends, was bigger than I ever could have imagined. How couldn’t I have noticed it earlier? He always was my friend, and he would stay my friend until the day we’d die.
With every single meeting we had over the next months, we grew closer and after a few weeks and several hours of time together, I found myself forgiving him for what he’d done all those months ago.
Soon, we were back to our friendship like it was back then, but we grew closer still. He was more important to me now than ever. Back then, I would have considered him a good friend, nothing more, but now, I considered him as my best friend, my brother even. The most important person in my life, the one who I wouldn’t exchange for anything. He was my family.
Hadn’t it been for all that stuff that had been going on over the past years and was still going on, we’d be like normal friends. Hanging out on a regular basis, watching movies, all that stuff.
Instead, we strolled through the woods, spied on Jay and rarely left cryptic messages. I didn’t care that our friendship wasn’t what you’d consider to be normal. To be honest, we wouldn’t be considered normal either.
Masky’s my best friend and I don’t know where I would be without him.

So, that was it already. It was just an idea I had today so I immediately wrote it down. As I said in the description, I'd imagine them to be friends. As for some context, if it wasn't clear: Now that Alex is dead, Jay can focus on finding Jessica. He and Tim are still not getting along, just like in the end of the original series. Oh, and entry #87 didn't happen, as Jay isn't dead.
I hope you liked the story, and I'd be open for feedback.
