She was the wisp of the wind. The blue flame that danced in the forest and lit up the night. Her gentle guidance brought safety and comfort to all who saw her. A fairy to the humans.
The night she met him she was grazing through a field. Her fire weaved through the rows of grass and left behind a sweet trail of color. It swooped high and low, covering every living thing in her light. She danced about with a smile on her face and wooed even the peering animals.
He rode a horse through the same field moments later. His free hand was gripping his wounded shoulder tightly, his other hand yanking the reigns of the horse and forcing it forward. He was searching for a safe place to rest while fleeing from the trouble behind. Unknowingly, falling right into her hold.
The wind softly whispered in his ear when he came to rest on a large oak tree separated from the forest. It told him stories of comfort and reassured him of his safety. He had tied the reigns of his beast to the tree and leaned against it, wincing in pain. He had nothing to help heal his wound, he thought, and took deep breaths.
She had noticed him laying against her tree friend and came fluttering close. His eyes had closed from the pain and his hand still gripping the wound. Despite his extreme situation, his beauty was still undeniable. It astounded her that a mere mortal could have such abilities.
Swooping low, she whisked around his long black hair and behind his neck. Her small fairy-like figure tip toed onto his shoulder and came around to peer at his face closer. His eyebrows were furrowed deeply in agony and sweat drops formed on his skin.
The wind hummed in delight as her flame fluttered around his wound, seeping into his shoulder and healing it instantly. It brought comfort back into his expression as he relaxed against the tree. She embraced the change he possessed and stepped around to see him fuller.
The pale moonlight above the tree was not enough light to see him completely. Thus, she waved her hand and wisped a tiny flame above his head that gave her light. She was mesmerized by his appearance and it enticed her to grow to his size. She fanned out her arms and legs and increased her power to become the size of a normal human girl.
"So pretty," she whispered, gently placing her fingertips on his lips that were turning blue from the cold. Her touch spread heat throughout his body and he began to ease back.
Hwang Hyunjin was a stunning figure. A knight sworn to his majesty the king and fought diligently for his country. In the middle of a mission given only to him, he was ambushed and forced to flee. The wound on his shoulder was only inflicted from the tip of a sword that got too close for comfort. His usual stealthy self was caught off balance due to the poison streaming in his body.
But the beautiful fire wisp had healed him of all his flaws and let him rest in her care. She eased his body off the tree and gently placed his head on her lap. A beautiful treat for her to enjoy was rare to come by. Most humans sought for her power and comforting flame, and she often fled before they could. But now she was sitting , combing the hair of a famous knight.
Her tender touch allowed him to fall into a deep sleep. He wasn't aware of her presence and how carefully she tended to him. Nor did he remember how he had gotten to the field or why he was there. It was all a blur as he rested his heavy head on her lap.
"A little lion came crawling into my den," she laughs to herself. She begins to hum a sweet melody while tending to Hyunjin. She felt herself at peace with him in her arms. She couldn't recall ever being so calm, despite being the definition itself of peace.
Hyunjin's stories were told threw his dreams. He was born to a nobleman and bred as the most upright and sophisticated man. To be a knight for the king was great honor to his family and was branded as the most eligible for marriage among young women. From morning to night he was training to wield a sword. The hardships of his life were becoming unbearable all alone.
She felt pity on the human for suffering all that weight on his own. The poison in his body seemed to be slowly taken over years, and not even from a weapon used in the recent fight. After some time of hearing his stories through his dreams, she tested him against the tree once more and prepared to leave. Her fire wisp followed closely behind.
Hyunjin started to feel the cold once more when her presence left his side. His eyes slowly opened to watch her blurry figure fade away into the high grass. He could only tell where she was from the glowing blue light her flames gave off.
The knight sat up and reached for his previously wounded shoulder. To his surprise, it no longer ached of any pain and was easy to move again. Even the burning pain of the poison was no longer flowing through his blood. His head began to pound incessantly, however, due to the memories from his dreams. Hyunjin yearned for her comfort once more, looking onward into the night for the brilliant glow.
The fire wisp glanced behind her shoulder, peering through her white hair to look at the man once more. She felt her heart thump anxiously against her chest. To ease the feeling, she placed her hand against her chest and frowned. It wasn't a pleasant feeling at all for a wisp of peace. But she couldn't quite explain why.
Hyunjin leaned forward, grunting at the uncomfortable feeling of laying on the cold ground. He stood to untie his horse from the tree and began to walk the opposite way of the wisp. He glanced behind him, though, in wonder and want.
The wisp sighed. She was contemplating returning to dance with the wind and sing to the trees of her forest. But the tinge in her heart, at the thought of leaving him, made her stop. She couldn't leave. She wanted to know more about that man. She wanted to understand the feelings and emotions of humans. Her heart aching showed she could eventually be just like him. She yearned to be his peace and end his loneliness.
Hyunjin also stopped, his thoughts racing about who she was and why he felt better in her arms. He could no longer see the blue flames, and it made his heart hurt. It was then he decided that he had another mission to do. It would require to go against everything he was raised on and take on a separate task not enforced by the king. He was going to find that girl, no matter what.
