"Did you put sunblock on her already?" You questioned your husband, glancing at your daughter who was running towards the waves, her floaties making it difficult to move her arms as she did so.

Felix confirms he had already prepped her for the harsh sun rays that seemed to be already wearing you out. "Nothing can stop her now that she's already here," he laughs.

You turn to watch him situate the baby in his arms so he could also put sunscreen on him. "Did you put on sunblock?"

Felix pauses his movements, shoulders dropping. "No," he admits sheepishly.

Your hand reaches to fix the hat on your son's head so it covers his eyes more. "C'mere, I'll help you out."

Your husband sits the baby upright on the blanket before maneuvering to sit in front of you, handing you the sunscreen bottle. You start to lather on his back, making sure to get his neck underneath his hair, knowing he burns easily. You could already imagine the complaints had he forgotten to protect his own skin, prioritizing the kids.

The wind was slightly kissing your skin that morning, the sun out and shining brightly. The ocean's scent filled your senses and you took a deep breath to take it all in. You sat snugly underneath an umbrella, a picnic basket full of snacks and drinks on your left, your son and some toys on your right side. When Felix left your side, he was immediately down by the water with your daughter, helping her attempt to build a muddy castle.

You smiled softly, wanting to keep this moment in your mind forever. It was a wonderful day out for a last minute family adventure; one Felix had spontaneously sprung upon you when you woke that morning. The laughter in the distance, the comfort sound of the waves crashing, all being taken into your mind for a memory to look back at. Still, you attempted to relish in the current feeling, leaning over to grab your son from the blanket.

After changing him into a comfortable swim outfit, you started to head down to the water with your husband and daughter. They were already deep into making the muddy castle, toes dug into the sand and looks of concentration on their faces. Immediately, they allowed you to join to help create a better tower.

"Here, why don't we use a mix of dry and wet sand to help it stick better?" You encouraged, grabbing an empty pail to fill with dry sand.

Your daughter happily took the offering, cupping the wet sand in her little hands, throwing the scoops into the pail. When she turned the bucket over and removed it, the castle stood strong beneath it. Her face lit up at the sight, clapping her hands together quickly before racing to get more dry sand to continue building.

Felix's attention had moved to your son. "Do you want to go for a swim, babe? I can stay here."

You squinted your eyes to look at him, the sun blocking your view. "Yeah, I could go for a swim. Do you want me to take one of the kids?"

He shook his head. "No, I got them. They want to play anyway."

Agreeing with him, you started to walk into the water, going only a little ways in to float around. You turned around to be able to see your lovely family happily work on their sand kingdom. Their sweet smiles and cheers of joy had you grinning ear to ear, the sight truly making your heart happy.

Your eyes focused on your husband, the way his blond hair stuck to the back of his neck. It wasn't yet wet, still fluffy and blowing in the wind, his hands occasionally pushing it back from his face. You watched him lightly bounce your child in his lap, moving his position occasionally as he worked on the castles too. The way his skin gleamed under the sun reminded you of the many freckles you would see later that afternoon when you returned home. Every little thing about him still gave you butterflies.

After a while of switching back and forth between the sand and the water, the kids became tired and wanted to go home. Felix helped you back up your things, throwing the umbrella holder over his shoulder and tugging along the cooler tub. Your daughter still wanted to hold his hand, despite him obviously carrying a lot of items, and it made him smile brightly and immediately grasp her hand in his.

"Can we get ice cream daddy?" She asks suddenly, glancing up at him and fluttering her eye lashes.

You attempted to hold back your laugh, noticing how well she had Felix wrapped around her finger. "You haven't had lunch yet, sweetheart."

Your husband's eyes met yours. "It is a special day," he reminds you, almost pleading for your compromise.

Sighing, you agreed to have a frozen treat before lunch. "Daddy's paying though," you teased, quickly running forward towards the car so you couldn't be caught with Felix's distraught eyes.
