It was a typical Monday morning for Jordan. First, they'd get up, check their phone, head downstairs to make themselves breakfast, brush their teeth and pick and outfit for the day. This was their everyday routine and it had not changed since they were 15. Their parents had passed away soon after their 18th birthday, leaving them with more money than they knew what to do with. It should be noted that Jordan does not have very many friends as they graduated high school a few years ago and all of their friends went their separate ways. Not that they had very many friends anyway. They had been bullied pretty badly during high school for being non-binary so they do not really bother trying to make friends anymore because they can't be bothered to come out to more people than necessary. They weren't really bothered with dating either so they were pretty lonely. They liked it that way though. All the peace and quiet was like a lifelong vacation to a meditation resort. They were downstairs watching tv when they heard a banging on the door.
*thump*
"what the hell?" they thought to their self. They heard it again
*thump*
It sounded like someone was throwing a small child at their front door. Of course, they were curious as to who was at their door and who in the world was making that ridiculously loud banging so they got up and decided to have a look. As they stood up from their baby-blue leather couch, they heard it again but decided to keep walking towards their door to let whoever it was in. they opened it and saw a very peculiar face standing in front of them but they couldn't figure out who it was. They were not much taller than Jordan and had piercing blue eyes and dark blonde hair. Then it hit them. "Avery Johnson" the face said as they stuck out her hand for Jordan to shake.
"oh my god its been so long" Jordan exclaimed. Their old love interest from high school.
"I know!" Avery replied with enthusiasm "I missed you so much" she followed
"as did I" Jordan paused. "oh, excuse my manners darling, please come in"
"still going with the pet names, I see" Avery said with a wink
Butterflies instantly came to their stomach as they remembered how flustered Avery was able to make Jordan every time they barely made any effort. They felt all warm and fuzzy inside. They forgot how comforting human contact could be but they loved it. They sat down at the kitchen bench and started to boil the kettle.
"do you want a tea my love?" asked Jordan, hoping that Avery wouldn't get made at the pet name, even though they new that was nearly impossible.
"of course, I do sweetheart" Avery replied with a loving smile.
Jordan new that they were falling for Avery all over again.
