The Prologue

Traveling across the snowy countryside is certainly a magical experience, especially for this unique species, the Hyphie.
They're an interesting species, cat like, with cat characteristics, and cat-like anatomy, but they aren't??
That one looks like it's part rabbit, that one over there looks like a Pokemon, that one next to this one looks like a dragon, and even that one looks like a centaur!? Oh, and that one's a ghost.
These are interesting creatures indeed.
Certainly a true wonder to this world.
Oh look, a snowstorm is approaching, better find cover in that conveniently placed cave over there!
Hopefully theres no Guardian in there...

There was a Guardian in there, seemingly quite lonely,... oh! This one must be the youngest of them all!
They said that they're lonely,  Guarding this cave, named The Abyss, mind you, quite spacious indeed, and quite the interesting space, perfect place to grow Hyphies!

Wait... You don't know how baby Hyphies are made?
Well, when two Hyphies love eachother very much...

No. That isn't how it works here. Most Hyphies are genetically Aroace, or at least A-spec, to any humans reading this. There are a few exceptions, and they're very welcomed in the Hyphie community, very celebrated infact!
Hyphies are a very inclusive species, they're a diverse species, no two Hyphies are the same!
Long story short, baby Hyphies are grown like plants, and a lot of Hyphies are single parents for this reason!
You see, Hyphies have three lives each, and when they lose all three, they become a Ghost.
Ghost-Hyphies (Or Ghosties?), are very needed in the Hyphie cycle (The Hycicle? Nah, that doesn't work), as they take the parent's desired baby design, and give them their desired, customised seed! Shaped like an egg, the size of an egg, but it's a seed! (Like that one Pokemon!)
How do the Ghosties get these seeds, I hear you ask, my dear viewers!
Well, the answer is, Magic!
Up until now, Hyphies didn't have magic,
(That's important to the plot)
So Ghosties were the only ones with magic!
Why didn't the Alivies (i need to stop doing this) just ask for a baby with magic?
Because only a higher being can give others magic,
and that's where the plot continues!

This Guardian, youngest of their kind, wanting responsibility, wanting their own admirers, invited these Hyphie explorers to stay in this snowy, barren land, in return for magic, and a place to grow their beautiful children, in the lush soil that The Abyss produces.
The explorers agreed, because the whole reason that they were exploring, is that they didn't have a place to live!
(some lore shit idk, like a war or smth, im not that far into worldbuilding yet lmao)
The Abyss Guardian, filled with glee and excitement and everything good in the world, gave the explores magic, and multiple different types, infact!
(think a combo between The Owl House and Pokemon, but just less types because that's too much)
Each explorer, including the Ghost, chose their preferred types of magic, and began a new life in The Abyss.

Wait... Why is it called 'The Abyss?'

"There's multiple 'phases' of this cave, Young Guardian. Split into two, mainly, the Alive, and The inbetween. You shall be Guarding every piece of this monument, and take care of every living creature that discovers this place, is that clear, Young Guardian?"
"Yes, Elders, I won't let you down."
And so the Young Guardian explored the land they were left with, a spacious cave, connected to a void? They let their small, gentle paws take them wherever they wanted, their glowing eyes observing the area around them.
"I wonder what the inbetween is like... I wanna check it out!"
And so they did.
It was empty, of course, noone lived in this part of the world, it was scarce, just snow, and ice, and occasionally a tree!
The Young Guardian didn't mind, she knew that someone would find this place eventually.

"Us Hyphies don't have genders, although you... look like a Hyphie, are Guardians just... overpowered Hyphies?" an explorer asked.
"Well, yeah! I can't remember how i came to be, but, all Guardians are Hyphies... yeah!
...also what's a gender?"
"I'unno, just read it inna book somewh'ere, something about uh... hoo, hyu..mans? Sounds like old dirtblob!"
"I mean, we're Sunborn, Moonborn and Starborn, but they apparently have... Boys, Girls... and Nonbinary? Heck, there's even more! But some humans hate other humans for it, what a load of dirtblob, glad they're in another universe, and not real!"
"I'm a Guardian, i'm not a Born, as far as i can remember..."
"Well i'm a Starborn! I emerged under the Stars!"
"I'm a Sunborn!"
"Me too!"
"Nah mate, I'm a Moonborn!"
The mortals were fun! The Youngest Guardian hoped that this group's three lives would last longer, so that their bonds would forever be treasured, but alas, all good things must come to an end eventually.
The Youngest Guardian stayed hidden that night.
They wanted to keep them in their memories, so they wrote a book, about Guardians, Guardian magic, and The Legend of The Hyphie Explorers.
