Keina's POV

Many years later...

"Happy birthday, Mazy." I said to my, now kinda old dog. She had been by my side through everything. Through stealing things, the police chases, she even once found food for us to share all by herself. For an old mutt, she's still as sparky as ever. She's rarely tired and is always up for an adventure.

I stole a cupcake from a bakery with the help of Mazy. I also found a pack of birthday candles in a parking lot. Somebody must have dropped them. It's lucky for me though.

I'm celebrating my birthday too. Since I don't know what day I was actually born, I just go off of the day I met Mazy. That's as much as I remember anyway. I always wonder about my parents. Are they dead? Do they still hate me? If I found them, would they take me in? I'll never know.

I put two candles into the cupcake. I then started to sing a special song that I remember. I think my mom might have sang the song before she abandoned me. I sing it everyday to help Mazy and I sleep at night.

Don't cry my angel.

You won't be hurt by the devil.

As long as you're in my arms.

As long as you have hope.

Have faith.

You have what it takes.

To see tomorrow.

You will see tomorrow,

My angel.

I then proceeded to hum the song over and over again. Until, I heard a noise . Footsteps, a thief's worst nightmare. Could it be a cop, coming to take me away? A social worker, trying to find "lost" children? Then I hear the same melody I was singing, except in a much higher hum. I prepared myself. I was ready to attack on a moments notice. To run faster than humanly possible. I've prepared myself to kill anyone that could harm me.

The figure peeked its head around the corner.

"You really thought I would miss a good party?" My best friend Aqua said. I let out a sigh of relief as soon as I saw her.

"Idiot, you scared me." I replied, trying to act cool about the situation.

She held up two boxes, a small one and a large one.

"Which one do you want?" She asked.

"Obviously the big one."

"Too bad, that one's for Mazy."

Mazy perked up at the sound of her name, running to Aqua. Aqua screamed.

"AH, I'm being licked to death!" She screamed.

"Mazy, NO!" I yelled. Mazy stopped and ran back to me. I'd train her in my free time. Which was ALL the time. She knew her name, she could sit, lay down, roll over, and play dead on command. She was smart for a mutt.

Aqua walked over to me and sat down. It was cold this time of year so we were both dressed warmly. Mazy tore open the large box to find treats and a new toy. She started to play with the toy, running around with it and probably trying to kill it.

Aqua was also a thief. We didn't live together to help make sure that we didn't get caught. Plus, if one of us got caught, at least the other wouldn't have to suffer. She had great luck. She always stole nicer things than I did. I was fast, I got only what I needed to help make sure I wasn't caught. She took her time, made it seem like she was a costumer. Then, she would take what she wanted and leave.

She lightly held my hand.

"Are you holding up alright?" She asked with sympathy.

"Yeah." I said as I tugged her hand away. I loved that she cared about me but the hugs and holding my hands made thing awkward. I think I just had a weird thing with touching others. I had ever since I was younger. Aqua just made things awkward sometimes when she tried to show that she cared about me and wanted to make sure I was always safe.

She's almost a year older than me. I just turned fifteen and she'll be sixteen in a few weeks. She's always been a lot more caring about people than me. She's like a mother to me. No, more like a sister.

She sighed. She hands me the small box. I'm hesitant to open it. When I do, I see a necklace. One with a silver bird on it. It appeared to be flying, soaring through the wind. I gasped, she only smiled.

"This looks expensive." I said to her.

"It is. I decided to get you something special this year."

"Where did you get this from?" I asked, I felt shocked at its beauty.

I started to put it on as Aqua leaned closer to my ear.

"The jewelry store a few miles down." She whispered as she giggles.

I was even more shocked. That jewelry store was a long walk away and that place was like super guarded.

"Aqua, how did you do it?" I asked as I hugged her. I've always wished I could steal from that place. And now, she's done it. I'm super proud of her.

"Classified." She replied.

I felt a chill run down my spine. If anyone ever said that word, I-I instantly feel strange. I've heard somebody bad say that word before, I just know it. Maybe it was my mother or maybe my father. Who knows?

After I let go from our hug, Aqua plastered a huge grin on her face.

"What are you up to this time, Aqua?" I asked, I myself was smiling too.

"Let's go steal some stuff." She said at last.

"Heck yeah!"

I told Mazy to stay at "home" while I grabbed a cold bottle of water and some stale potato chips. We might get hungry. We used scarves to cover half of our faces. We started to walk to wherever we were going to steal from. Arms locked and I wore my new lucky silver bird necklace.

My birthday party is just getting started.
