AN: Ahhh! This story is soon coming to an end, just a few more chapters. Thank you so much for coming along this journey with me. This story was an emotional one, lowkey had me sobbing at some parts, but it helped me see that we don't need anyone to validate ourselves. We like what we like 🤷🏾♀️ so I guess this is where I say the cheesy like yolo lmaoooo it may be cheesy but it's the truth. Please spend this one lift time we are given doing things that make you happy, no matter how small. I love you ❤️

As each day blurred into the next, you and h/n fell into a comfortable pattern of being just coworkers. If it was a normal day, you'd be concentrated on counting every time he passed by your desk, building up some fantasy that he was doing it to get your attention or hope his eyes would somehow meet yours across the conference table as he went over some numbers. Delusional didn't even touch this.
But these days were anything but normal. These were the days you've been reclaiming yourself and your time. In hindsight, if it wasn't for his dagger like tongue, you'd still be trapped in the chains that he put on you that first day you met but now you were free. How ironic was it that the one who trapped you was also the one who let you go? To be fair, he didn't really trap you...more like you trapped yourself. Nonetheless, it was quite funny how something so profound became meaningless after years of hopeless preservation.
Something new you've also noticed was the weight of him that became norm and pressed down on your chest was gone, replaced with a small flower of hope that grew each day with everything little thing you discovered about yourself. This journey of self discovery has not been easy, nor will it ever be, but it was completely overdue.
You applauded yourself — actively pursuing someone for years in the hopes that it would turn into something tangible was no easy feat — but it didn't change the fact that it got you nowhere. Regret, along with sorrow, were just one of the few emotions you felt in regards to the lost time but you had your whole life ahead of you and you promised yourself it would be spent on your own terms.
A ping from your tablet pulled you from your thoughts — it was an email from your boss asking to see you. Anxiety awoke deep in your stomach, it was usually never a good thing when the boss asked to see someone.
As you walked down to his office, you kept telling yourself that things would be fine. Would they? You knocked on his door.
"Come in! Take a seat," he said as you entered. He was sat at his desk, signing some documents. You waited as the sound of the pen on paper made you feel even worse. Would his pen stroke against your dismissal papers when he fired you? No, don't think like that.
"I apologize for suddenly calling you in."
"It's fine," you replied.
"Not a lot of employees are aware of this but our company is expanding world wide. We're starting with Australia. Several of us are hand picking some employees to get the ball rolling over there. Ever since I hired you, you've been a valuable asset to this company. I would like it if you would oversee the art department."
"Wait," you said as you held up a hand. "I'm not getting fired?"
He gave you a weird look, "why would you think you were getting fired?"
"I don't know, doesn't everyone always think that when they're suddenly called into the boss's office?"
He laughed. "That depends. Did you do something worth getting fired for?"
