After my last class, I separated with them to find Mary, as I needed to borrow her notes. Walking through the halls, I made it to the libary, where I was meant to meet her. Looking through the books, someone else walked into my aisle. Looking up, I saw Severus. Or, Snivellus, as James called him. Seeing me, he turned away. "You." He stopped, turning to me, "what is with you? cursing first years for no good reason?" His eyes were cold as he glared at me. "I did nothing of the sort."That was all Mulciber and Avery. I was just there." I scoffed. "And you think that's better? You just let them do that? That's just as bad." Whatever. I don't care what you or your little friends think of me." Grinding my teeth, I glared as he walked away. Seeing Mary walk in, I went to her. "Hey! Here are my notes." "Thanks." She frowned. "What's up? You're so.." she gestured to me, making circles with her hands. "-glum." "I'm alright. Just that Severus kid. He's such a dirtbag." "So you've met him then. Yeah, he's like that." "I think I'm gonna go to the dorms, actually. Can I take your notes?" "Sure, just give em' back after. I'm gonna stay here, I've got some books to find." I nodded. "See you later then."
Walking out, I rounded the corner, walking up to the gryffindor common room. When I got inside, I saw Remus, Sirius, and Peter sitting around the fireplace. Sirius looked up. "Hey, Cat! Where'eve you been?" "Library." I replied. "Up for a game of exploding snap?" He asked. "I've got Mary's notes, I gotta go study, sorry. Maybe later." I headed up to the girls dormitory, which was empty, except for Lily. She sat at her desk, etching away at a piece of parchment. Walking up to the window, I sat at my own desk, opening my textbook. Switching between Mary's notes and my own, I started writing everything I could find that seemed important enough. "Hey, Catherine?" Lily turned to me, pausing her work. "Hm?" I glanced up at her. "It's just.. I overheard the boys talking about what happened earlier. With Severus?" "Oh. Yeah. What about it?" "I wanted to- you know, tell you that he's not all bad." "What?" "Severus, I mean. It's just that lot he hangs out with. He's sweet, really- if you know him like I do. I mean- I've been telling him to stop hanging with those two, and he listened! I'm sure he just got roped into something, out of his control." I furrowed my brow. "So...?" "So.. I'm just asking you to not- judge him off of that." I nodded. "I won't." She smiled, turning back to her paper. If Lily's friends with him, she must have a reason, right?
"Cat. Cat!" Feeling my shoulders being shaken, I opened my eyes, looking around groggily. Mary was looking down at me. "You fell asleep, missed dinner. Lily said you might be here. "Oh- right." I lifted my head up, looking down at the scattered parchment on my desk. "Here are your notes." I said, handing them to her. "Thanks. And- I think James brought you some food. He's in the common room." I rubbed my eyes, standing up. Walking down to the common room, I saw James sitting there, textbook in his hand. "Hey." I said, falling back into a chair. "Oh, hey! I brought you up some food." He said, gesturing to the side table, where there was a piece of bread, chicken, and a small slice of cherry pie wrapped up in a crumpled napkin. "Thanks- sorry, I fell asleep studying." I said, reaching over to grab the food. "I heard." "Yeah. And also, earlier, I was talking to Lily-" I started, leaning back into my chair. "She's friends with that Snape kid. Is that why she- (air quotes) hates you- so much?" He nodded. "Basically. What'd she tell you?" "That he's not all bad. And to give him a chance." He looked up. "And will you?" "I shrugged. I reckon I should. Why, will you shun me if I do?" He grinned. "I might have to." Oh- before I forget- one sec." Grabbing a quill, I etched a note on my arm. Catch-up class : Sept 3, 4:00. Looking up, I saw James furrowing his brow, looking over to see what I wrote. I held my arm up for him. "My first extra class is tomorrow. How cool is that? Private classes with Dumbledore himself." He nodded. "Finally. It's been hard talking to you- with your low iq and all." He said, smirking lightly as he crossed his arms. As he leaned back into the couch, closing his eyes, I took my chance and sent a pillow hurling at his head. "HEY-" he said, standing up. But I was already up the stairs, lumped onto my bed and laughing.
I was walking through the forest, hearing peaceful chirping and the crunch of branches below my feet. A small bird flew over to me, perching on my arm. Fluttering its feathers, I reached to touch it- and it started pecking at me! Poking my arm, over and over- "stop!" My eyes flew open. Stupid- dream bird. Looking down, I saw what had really caused the poking. An enchanted paper airplane that had just been stabbing at my arm, was now sitting on my lap. Seeing a bit of of ink on the inside, I opened it up to see (in James' handwriting) a note. Cat, come meet us in the common room at 2am. Be quiet and bring your wand. Folding the note up, I stuck it under my pillow, rubbing my eyes, and stood. The clock said 2:02. Tying my hair up, I put on my slippers and grabbed my wand, creeping down the steps. Stepping onto the carpet, I saw three boys by the portrait door, whispering among themselves. "Guys?" I said quietly, making my way over to them. Looking up, they motioned to me. "We're fancying some mischief tonight. You up for it?" Sirius asked. "Depends. What's the idea?" I replied.
"Ok. Here's the plan- I overheard some slytherins say the password, so we can get in. Rem will stay watch outside their common room, James and I will go to the guys dorm, and Cat, you go to the girls dorm. Easy enough. When we get in, you go to the bathrooms and drop this down any one of their sink drains." He held out a two small, purple, pill sized things, that looked similar to a bath bomb. "They're rigged to go off when someone turns on the faucet." He said. I crossed my arms skeptically. "Right. How are we supposed to do that without getting caught?" He grinned, turning to James. For the first time, I noticed a large shimmering piece of cloth on his arm. "No way. Where'd you get an invisibility cloak!?" I scream-whispered. He smiled. "It's a family heirloom." He replied, shrugging sheepishly. Sirius rolled his eyes. "Ok ok, old news. Let's go." "Wait, wait- no way all four of us can fit under here. "Don't be silly. James and I are going under the cloak. You and Rem will go around the other way. Less of a chance of getting caught that way. Besides, Remus is a prefect now." He said, putting his hand on his forehead and fluttering his eyelashes. Remus rolled his eyes. "He means I'm allowed to be out at this time, if I say I'm patrolling." "Right. What about me then? I'm no prefect." I said. James crosse his arms. "No, you're new." You can just say you got lost and he was showing you back. Easy." I glanced at the cloak, then to Remus and his shiny prefect badge. "Ok, let's go." Sirius split into a wide grin and clapped my shoulder. "I knew you would say yes."
