Author's Pov

On the same day, during the lunch break, a scene occurred between Karan and Chitra where Karan tried his luck with her. Harsh ate his food hurriedly to meet Athira in her class, which made Chitra to feel lonely even among the numerous classmates surrounding her.

Chitra comforted herself and advocated her mind to get used to such circumstances a lot in the future. It hurts but she is determined to overcome it.

After lunch, Chitra walked to the canteen with one of her friends to buy some chocolates. Without Harsh in the class, Chitra felt strange being there. His absence was terrible for her to manage and so, she choose to roam outside.

And that was when Karan came into the scenario. As soon as he entered, the girl beside Chitra understood the unspoken message and quietly left the place.

Chitra was aware of Karan's intention but like Harsh, she also knew about his personality. He is the son of a wealthy politician parent. The status of his family gave birth to his egoistic and 'I'm above everyone' character.

But he truly liked Chitra and he is not a bad person like the people perceive him to be.

"To the canteen?" Chitra just nodded her head and smiled at him. She thought that it was meaningless to be rude to him just because he likes her.

They silently sauntered towards the canteen. Karan's tongue was tied as her fingers slightly caressed his when they were walking by.

That unintentional action of Chitra created havoc inside his heart. Inside the canteen, Karan paid for the chocolates Chitra bought even after she insisted that she would pay.

Defeated by his persistence, Chitra agreed so and then placed herself on one of the chairs alongside a table. Karan sat adjacent to her.

"It's quite rare to see you without your best friend," Karan spoke as he watched Chitra unwrap the dairy milk chocolates wrapper.

"Hm..." Chitra doesn't want to disclose Harsh's newfound love to Karan even though the news would be spreading like a wildfire soon.

She calmly began munching on her chocolate while Karan spoke again. "Do you feel jealous of Athira?" Chitra lends him a glance. Seeing that he was already aware of the newly forming couple, she commenced talking.

"No. I'm happy for her. She is lucky to have gotten a guy like Harsh," that wasn't a lie meant to hide her real feelings. But the truth that she tried to get into her mind.

Karan simply believed her words and smiled. "I'm happy for them as well, but for a different reason," Chitra looked at him expectantly.

"I could spend some alone time with you," Chitra raised her eyebrows and shook her head with a tiny smile. "We can be good friends Karan, but not more than that..." He expected this from her and wasn't very surprised.

"Friendship is the base of any relationship," he was confident that he would make her fall for him If he was given a chance. Well, she would have If her heart wasn't already been stolen by her best friend.

"No Karan. I'm not interested in dating. So please don't try..." Karan smirked. "I won't give up Chitu. I want you and I will have you," his words sounded creepy to Chitra and she darted her view away from him.

He gently plucked the half-eaten chocolate from her hands and left the canteen, whistling to himself. Chitra felt threatened by Karan's words even though Karan meant no harm by his statement. There weren't any harmful intentions behind his words but they still impacted and rubbed Chitra in the wrong way.

She was scared. What If he does something bad to her? She thought to herself and a sudden question rose in her heart. "Would this have happened If Harsh was with her?"

Logically, she couldn't blame him. But she couldn't help herself. She couldn't accept the fact that people change their priorities as per they wish.

Between relationship and friendship, the latter one sustain the damage in most cases. The reason is simple. To maintain a relationship with the person who would be your companion for the rest of your life, continuous interactions and meaningful conversations are needed. During this, all other relations tend to mean less.

To put it more plainly, when even the parents signify nothing in the eyes of those people who are in love with each other, how much could be the value of friendship?

It definitely wouldn't be the same in all cases but I've seen many friendships fall apart when one of them gets into a relationship.
