"Wake up, Emily! We have a lot to do," I exclaimed while standing next to my bed. She ignored me and turned to the other side of the bed. "Em, I'm serious, it's already 7:30!" I reminded her. After I told her that she bolted up and went to get ready. After she was gone I went to take a shower.
After my shower I walked in my closet to pick out an outfit. Since I have a lot of work to do I'll wear something more comfortable. I picked out a white long sleeve crop top and paired it with some tan pants. I brushed my teeth and styled my hair into a messy bun. I skipped my makeup and walked back into my bedroom.
Emily was also dressed comfortably. She had a white cropped tee and gray sweatpants on. Her hair was styled in a side fishtail braid. She smiled at me and handed me a paper labeled 'Ball Checklist'. It listed all the things we needed to accomplish in the next three hours. Luckily, some pack members volunteered to help us out.
After an hour of preparations, we were about halfway done. I definitely underestimated how many pack members would help. Practically the whole pack was helping. I felt bad because most couldn't even attend.
At Royal events like these only werewolves above a rank 7 could attend. A rule created by one of the former Wolf kings. I'm rank three and Emily is rank five. The lowest ranked people who could attend were the fighters who sat at a rank 7.
Royals and their plus ones who were attending the ball had begun arriving throughout the last week. Some had to begin their journey early because they were coming from all over the globe. Strangely, my wolf has felt antsy all day. I figured it was just the anxiety of attending a Royal event. I hadn't attended a Royal event in 15 years.
After another hour, we had finished preparing for the ball. We finished earlier than anticipated thanks to my wonderful pack members' help. After thanking the volunteers Emily and I went to begin getting ready.
My gown was this gorgeous Royal red. It had these gorgeous puffy sleeves and a square neckline. Emily's gown was a pretty baby pink with a plunging neckline covered with ruffles. It brought out her beautiful chocolate brown eyes. After we both had showered, we helped each other get into our gowns.
I styled her hair into a fancy updo and added a cute pearl accessory. She straightened my hair which was not an easy task. Then she braided my hair into this rose design. We whitened our teeth and did our makeup. Finally, we put on some jewelry and last minute accessories.
"Don't forget your tiara," Emily reminded me. I grabbed my tiara and placed it on my head. I glanced at myself in the mirror and took a sharp breath. Emily noticed this and assured me, "everything will be ok." I looked at her and gave her a weak smile. She took my hand and we walked out of my room.
Everyone was in the ballroom except for the new king and the former king & queen. They hadn't arrived yet and everyone was patiently waiting for them. Emily had already gone into hostess mode. She was mingling with all the guests. Most guests were shocked to see me.
I slipped away from the ballroom and headed to the gathering hall where the children were. We had fun activities set up for them there to keep them busy. I enjoyed the presence of children much more than adults.
"Hey pups!" I greeted them while walking in the gathering hall. Some looked my way and gave a smile or a little wave. I spotted a young girl who looked no older than six. She had short black hair and a little tiara delicately placed on her head. She was sitting alone with a sad expression plastered on her face. I walked over to her and sat beside her. "Hi! I'm Princess Liana. What's your name?" I asked in an upbeat voice.
"My name is Princess Cleo," she whispered with a weak smile. Cleo. Where have I heard that name? I pondered the kings & queens trying to think of which country she was Princess of. Then it hit me. She is the Princess of Octaria.
"Why are you sitting alone?" I inquired in a soft voice. She looked at me with glossy eyes. I waited for her response patiently while studying her face. A little tear rolled down her cheek.
"The other pups told me I'm useless," she muttered with tears streaming down her face. My heart sunk at her words. She reminded me of when I was little. Why I had stopped attending these events. I had been just like Cleo. Looking at her I saw my younger self. I gave her a hug and she softly cried in my arms.
"You are not useless," I promised her, giving her one last squeeze. I sat there and played with her for a while. She was actually a lot of fun. I wish the kids from the orphanage could meet her. Suddenly, my mother mindlinked me.
