My bare feet were so cold, almost numb, as I walked on the icy floor of the kitchen. It was 7 am and I decided to wake up early to make breakfast and ease the tension a bit before talking to my brothers about yesterday's situation.
I decided to make pancakes, Zayn's favorite, maybe he wouldn't get super mad If he had his stomach full. At this point, I could only hope.
I was mixing the batter for the pancakes when I heard a tap on the backdoor. I froze as I wiped my hands on a dirty dishtowel which I'm pretty sure used to be one of my brother's old shirts. I grabbed the key from one of the drawers and unlocked the backdoor.
Opening the door I wasn't surprised to lock gazes with a pair of green eyes. Jax. I had hoped he was hangover and wouldn't have gone for his morning run, but I guess luck wasn't on my side. He grabbed my face between his cold hands and squeezed my cheeks together. "Morning, baby Gabs"
I hated being called a baby but right now arguing with my brother wouldn't be a smart move.
"What are you doing up so early?" he gave me a suspicious look. Everybody knew how much I loved sleeping in.
"Just wanted to prepare you guys some breakfast for a change" I grinned.
"Did Sam's mum drop you off this morning?"
"What?" I asked confused.
"From the sleepover?" he looked at me confused.
"Oh, uhm yeah she did"
"But didn't you say her parents were out of town?" He asked. He could read me like an open book, and I could tell he knew I wasn't telling the truth.
"Uhm, yeah but they arrived this morning, and dropped everybody off" Why would they drop us off at 7 am on a Saturday? I thought to myself. No way he will fall for that.
"At 7 am?". Shit.
"They said they had plans"
He nodded but I could tell he knew I was lying, I guess he decided to drop it.
"There's a pot of coffee I made for you guys If you want" I tried to change the subject
"Mhm." He poured himself some coffee while looking at me suspiciously.
Before Jax could continue questioning me I heard some footsteps and Colton appeared in the kitchen. I swear I've never been more happy to see my annoying brother.
"How was the party?" Jax asked Colton
"Great, nothing much happened, just some dudes getting high and girls throwing themselves to me" Colton said trying to sound convincing. He nervously glanced at me and Jax saw that. He was eyeing us with a suspicious look.
"Mhm," Jax nodded again. He was awfully quiet. That was not a good sign. He knew.
"How was your night? With Ezra and Zayn?" Colton asked Jax. "Did you get drunk with beers and watched some football?"
"Good, I'm sure it was pretty boring compared to both of you guys nights" He sipped some coffee looking at both of us.
I glopped and shared looks with Colton. But I felt Jax's stare burning on the side of my head.
Then Zayn and Ezra came down the stairs. Great timing you guys. Family reunion I guess.
"Morning," Ezra said patting Colton's back and giving me a side hug.
"How come you guys are home?" Zayn said while pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"I left the party pretty early and this morning on the way home I picked Gabs up from Sam's house," Colton said pretty confidently. I glopped.
Jax looked straight at me. Fuck. If he had the slightest doubt about me lying now he knew for sure.
"Spit it out" Jax said looking at me. "I know you are hiding something"
"What's going on?" Zayn asked confused looking between Jax and I
"She said Sam's mum dropped her off this morning" he calmly stated. "And now Colton said that he picked her up, so which one of you idiots is not telling the truth?"
All heads turned to look at Colton and then directly at me
"You better start talking, 'cause you suck at lying" Jax added. He was mad, his tone was intimidating.
"Gabs?" Ezra said looking at me. "What did you guys do?"
"Colton" Zayn said clearing his throat. "I guess that If you tried to cover up her lie you are involved in it" Zayn said looking at Colton. " So care to explain?"
Before Colton could say anything I decided It was time to face the consequences. Colton helped me last night and as much as I would like him to take the blame in any other scenario this time I wasn't going to let him take the blame for my stupid self.
Alright here goes nothing.
"My friends and I sneaked out and went to yesterday's senior party. Colton caught me and took me home, it's not his fault, I acted stupid and didn't listen and ruined his night." I rumbled.
Before any of them could start lecturing me I added.
"Before you say anything I know how messed up and irresponsible that was, I'm sorry for lying and putting myself in a reckless situation. I get that I'm grounded and that you'll probably not be trusting me for a long time but please don't get mad at Colton he was just looking out for me and was the one who did the right thing by taking me home" Colton smiled at me proudly.
I looked at the rest of my brothers, and if looks could kill I most definitely would be 6 feet under.
I want daisy's in my tombstone. White ones. And maybe some roses too but not red ones that's too basic.
"You what?!" Zayn raised his voice approaching me. "Tell me this is some kind of sick prank and that you didn't do all of that"
"I-i, we just wanted to see what a high school party was like and we didn't think an-" I was interrupted
"Give me your phone and go to your room before I say something I'll regret," Zayn said with his stern voice. "We'll come up and talk to you about the consequences"
" I thought you were smarter than that" he sighted.
I was about to apologize and explain myself when Jax approached me "Zip it, I don't want to hear a single word" he said pointing at the stairs and telling me to go up to my room. I just let out a sight and went upstairs.
Thirty minutes went by and I swear the anticipation was killing me, I knew that the conversation we were about to have wasn't going to be a pleasant one, at least not for me.
But waiting in my room awaiting the wrath of my brothers was unsettling, to say the least, plus they were taking a pretty long time. I even started to think that this was part of the punishment, the torture of not knowing what would happen.
