"What's with all the tulips?" Ione asked, eyeing the various colors of pinks and plum scattered across the kitchens' island and bar. Kyle chuckled and closed the lid to the waffle maker, "they're yours."
Ione lifted one of the potted flowers and inhaled the fresh scent, sighing in content. "Mine?" she repeated, placing the flowers back down and pulling out a barstool.
"From Riley," he said opening the cabinet above and grabbing two plates, placing them on the counter beside the red waffle maker.
Ione smiled softly at Rileys' gesture and moved some of the flowers to the side making a clear space on the island. "I told him I was over it," she said leaning her elbows on the gray marble counter top. That sentence was a lie, and Ione was thankful she wasn't close enough to Kyle for him to notice when she was spitting a lie through her teeth.
Once she returned to the restaurant, both boys were waiting for Ione beside Kyles' car and instead of questioning her about her whereabouts their only focus was on her see through t shirt and wet stringy hair clinging to her face.
They didn't care that she left the table upset, they only cared about getting her home and changed in fresh dry clothes.
Riley and Ione didn't act as if their disagreement during breakfast didn't happen. Once Iones' clothes were thrown in the dryer and she was changed in sweatpants and a tank top with her hair wrapped up in a towel, the two sat on Rileys' bed and talked about their banter.
Ione didn't know what to say half of their talk; mostly listening to Riley apologize numerous times in different wording and sentences. He voiced how what he meant to say came out wrong and he spoke without putting any thought in his words.
She didn't want to stay mad at Riley even though he hurt her feelings tremendously. It wasn't worth it. So she accepted his apology and went about her day, however, that still didn't stop her chest from aching at the possibility of how right he could be.
"He still feels awful," Kyle said opening the maker once it dinged and pulled out the fresh waffles, placing it on a plate and replacing the fill with mix. "He wouldn't stop talking about it once we went to bed," he sighed, "kind of annoy really if you ask me," he added with a chuckle.
Ione giggled, "I kind of sorta heard him."
"What?" Kyle gasped turning around and leaning against the island. From his point of view, all Kyle could see was her blue eyes and top of her head due to the tulips blocking view of her face. "Were you spying Miss. Watson?" he teased.
Ione smiled sheepishly and shrugged, tapping her fingers on the marble, "kind of hard to spy when Riley talks super loud."
Kyle chuckled and walked over to the waffle maker, dishing out the fresh batch, "that is true."
"Speaking of the loud mouth," Ione breathed glancing around the apartment, "where is he?"
Walking to the fridge, Kyle pulled out a stick of butter and bottle of syrup, placing them on the side counter near the stove. "He got called into work."
"I thought Saddle Ranch isn't open in the mornings," she said hopping off the barstool and walking towards the stove, grabbing a plate of waffles, "thank you."
Kyle returned to the fridge and pulled out a pitcher of orange juice, "it's not, he had to help with inventory."
Ione mouthed an 'o' and nodded her head while coating her waffles in butter then drenching them in maple syrup. "That's so not healthy," Kyle mused reaching over her shoulder to grab the syrup.
