Summary:

For the past eighteen years, Ione Watson has lived and grown amongst other abandoned children in a San Francisco homeless shelter. Ione was never one to complain about living in a shelter but the thought of her parents and their abandonment always lingered in the back of her mind.

Now at a legal age, she has been presented with something her biological father left behind with her when she was born. Taking a risk, Ione leaves the shelter and follows her fathers' footsteps over half the US in hopes of finding traces of him and her mother.

With the help of her best friend and a stranger she meets along the way, Ione visits all the places her parents passed through. From constant hitchhiking and cheap motels to drugs and stolen food, Ione begins to realize her trip across the states isn't as easy as she imagined and everything she faces head on might be exactly why her parents left her behind in the first place.
