It's been a year since I came back from New York, I feel like my life has stopped, and a huge part of me remains in New York. I try to be happy but It's difficult. I started my third year of medicine. I spend most of my time in my studies because there's nothing else I can do to preoccupied myself.
My heart is where Hunter is, and it will always remain with him even if he isn't a part of my life anymore. My brothers are happy in their lives, Noah met this girl Natalie, and she is the best thing that happened to him. I can see happiness in his eyes whenever he talks about him. Caleb is getting married to Lily. I can't be happier for my brothers but still there is something missing.
Right now, I am sitting in the front row of the towns church, watching my brother and the love of his life saying their vows binding them together in holy matrimony. Noah stood a few steps away from Caleb being his best man and looked annoyed.
"I told him to behave!" Natalie huffed, and I chuckled lightly. Natalie has given him an hour long lecture on how to stand and not look bored, and Noah hasn't listened to any of it.
"That's Noah for you!" I said, and we both laughed.
As I sat there watching my brothers being happy and winning in their life, there is something deep down that always reminds me of him, or maybe he was always there as I never forgot him. How I wish he would have been here with me right now!
I had waited for this day for years, and now that finally it's here, I don't have him to share my happiness. I miss you, Hunter!
I sensed someone sat on the empty chair beside me, but I didn't turn to look at them. I was busy with my thoughts when the person beside me cleared their throat, and I stiffened in my place, unable to move. I so wanted to look at my right, but my muscles didn't oblige.
"Hey, kitten! Missed me?" Said a playfully voice, and tears filled in my eyes, hearing that voice after a whole year.
"I told you I will come for you, and here I am!" He said and I was afraid for a moment that it is a part of my imagination and he is not there but then I felt hus hand touched mine and the first tear roll down my cheek followed by others.
"Don't cry, love!" He husked, and this time, I looked his way, and my breath hitched. It was him, it was really him!
"You .. are here!" I stuttered out with great difficulty. Hiz soft gaze took in my face with a soft smile grazing his lips. He was in usual attire all black, and a smile appeared on my face.
"Tell me it's real?" I almost pleaded. He raised his hand and wiped off the tears away from my face. His frowned a little as he looked over me.
"You lost some weight!" He scowled, and I couldn't help but let out a laugh. We are meeting after a year, and this is what he has to say.
"I thought you were in good hands," he said, glaring over at my brothers. I followed his gaze, Noah was looking our way and was glaring back at Hunter. I tensed!
"Don't worry! This time, no one will part us away. I promise!" He said, and I almost believed him.
"Langstone!" I gasped when I remembered his warning.
"You shouldn't be here... you..." I panicked, but he held my hand gently.
"He is gone. He won't bother you anymore. I have got rid of hum. He won't come in our way anymore. He can't hurt you or anyone else, " Hunter said with such certainty that I believed him.
"Would everything be okay?" I asked as my voice creaked a little. He smiled softly at me and cupped my cheek as he rubbed the underside of my eye lightly with his thumb. I closed my eyes, taking in the feeling of his touch after so long. I don't care if everyone is watching us, I don't care for anything. As long as he is here with me, everything is fine.
"Yes, everything will be okay!" His voice held a promise.
"Marry me, Alara!" His voice turned serious suddenly, and I opened my eyes to look at him.
"Time apart from you was..." He paused and sighed.
"I don't want to feel that again... please Marry me!" He said with softness. I looked back at my brothers, this time, both of them were watching me. I didn't realize the vows were finished long ago, and everyone is watching us. I instantly red at the attention.
I looked at Caleb first, and he smiled and nodded his head. Then I looked at Noah he groaned and then glared at Hunter. Finally, he looked at me. He stayed like that for few moments but then his face turned soft and he nodded giving a small smile and I grinned widely as I looked back at the love of my life who was waiting for my answer.
"Yes, yes, yes!" I said, and the next moment, he sat on his knees in front of me. He took my hand and slid a beautiful diamond ring in my ring finger. The diamond wasn't that big, but it was the way I liked, minimal yet elegant.
"Thank you," he said with a wide smile and kissed my forhead.
"I won't let you go away now!" He added, and I know I won't go either.
"Oh my God, congratulations!" Both Lily and Natalie hugged me and congratulated me.
Then Caleb walked towards me he shake hunter's hand, and both guys shared a few looks as if talking secretly. Then Caleb looked towards me, I frowned at him. Was he in contact with Hunter all this time?
"I am happy for you, little one!" He said as he embraced me.
"Caleb, you knew?" I asked, and he understood what I was talking about. He knew all about Langstone warning, his attack on Noah, and everything else. He nodded and pecked the crown of my head, giving a reassuring smile.
Noah first went to Hunter and threatened him.
"If you hurt my sister, I will kill you!" Noah gritted, and I rolled my eyes.
"If you didn't say it, I would be disappointed!" Retorted Hunter, and I sensed both guys glaring at each other. I have a pleading look to Caleb to stop them. He intervened and pulled Noah away, who glared at Caleb but still moved back. Noah then walked towards me.
"If he hurt you or even yell at you, you will tell me. I will deal with him!" He said, and I smiled.
"He would never do that!" I said, Noah rolled his eyes.
"Still!" He added and then hugged me.
"But you are not getting married right away. First, complete your studies, and then you can. And you are not moving in with him either, " he said.
"Hell not," growled Hunter from behind.
"We are getting married tomorrow, and no one can stop me." Hunter squared his shoulder. Noah and Hunter were again busy in their glaring game.
"No!" Said Noah.
"Yes," said Hunter.
"No."
"Yes," both of them are sounding like a child right now. I throw a look to Natalie, and she glared at Noah.
"Noah, let's go," she said and pulled him away with Noah shouting and Hunter.
"Oh God!" I murmured as Hunter held my hand and pulled me in another direction.
"We are getting married now!" He said, and I gasped.
"You are kidding, right?" I said, and he looked at me with seriousness, which told me he is not.
"I don't trust your brother!" He said, and my eyes widen.
"No, I am not marrying you right now, I haven't prepared. I want a big dream wedding, not a short, abrupt one, " I said as I crossed my arms and glared at him.
"Princess, please, I can't stay away from you anymore, please understand! Past year was hell for me" he said and my demeanor loosen.
"Fine but we aren't getting married today or tomorrow" is said with finality, he looked unconvinced but then finally he sighed and nodded.
"Fine,!" He groaned.
