I gazed up at Lightstar, leader of Lightclan. Excitement sparks through my pelt and my whiskers twitch.
Wait, I suppose I should introduce myself. I'm Softsoul, then Softkit, about to be Softpaw. My sister, Vixenkit and my brother, Beepaw were beside me. My best friend, Elmkit and his sister, Rosekit were also among us.
We were finally to be apprentices, if you haven't already guessed. My mother, Dovefeather, gave me an encouraging nod. I smiled at her sheepishly.
"Softpaw!"
I jumped and pricked my ears towards Lightstar. She was looking at me, her lips slightly curling into a smirk. "Yes?" I asked, nervous and embarrassed because of being startled.
"Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect this clan, even at the cost of your life?" she asked.
I took a deep breath and managed to make my voice confident, proud. "I do."
Suddenly, another warrior, Swiftclaw, shouted out, "What? Those are the lines to the warrior name ceremony! Not apprenticeship! Are you a mousebrain?" Swiftclaw was short-tempered like that. She was one of the only cats who'd dare to call a leader a mousebrain. I heard that she once called Mallowstar, another leader, I think of Riverclan, the most mousebrained of all the mousebrains or something like that. Do I believe it? Well, judging by her temper, yes I do.
Lightstar just shook her head briefly before restarting. "Well, okay then! Softkit, from this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Softpaw. Swiftclaw, you've done well with mentoring in the past. Your swiftness and awareness makes you good in the battlefield. I know you'll pass these on to Softpaw." she looked over at her mate, Aldermist. Her eyes seemed to be wondering if she did well. Lightstar hasn't been leader for long, and this was one of her first apprenticeship ceremonies. Well, whatever she was wondering, Aldermist nodded.
She seemed to heave a sigh of relief before moving on to Vixenkit. Here's a chart-like thing for the rest.
Vixenpaw= Fernseed
Rosepaw= Birchsong
Elmpaw= Windblow
Beepaw= Briarflame
So yeah, we were all apprentices now. It was fun, don't get me wrong. But after the ceremony, there just seemed to be a, well, a sort of empty feeling. Like we didn't know what to do. After that first day, though, we were the masters of the apprenticeship. Everyone knew our names, everyone admired us, they wanted to be us, really. And that's a lie.
In reality, I wasn't all that popular outside our group. If you know what that's like, then I feel sorry for ya. No one should understand that feeling. No one.
But trust me. My life was only beginning. It would have twists and turns that make it. . . different then others you may have heard of. You'll see what I mean. Later.
~ Okay, guys. What do you think of it so far? And I know that that question is hard to answer after only the first chapter, so you don't have to answer. Sorry that it's so short, I just thought this would make a good ending for the first chapter, so yeah. It's far from over. I hope
