She hung her umbrella above her head and started heading to the boarding house.

It was a day like every other since she moved to Mystic Falls, everything screaming 'danger' and 'supernatural'.

After her little brake to find some more about her powers, she returned to her little scooby gang.

Bonnie and Caroline made sure to uptadate her about every new villain that came to town, and Damon, her best friend, called every hour to complain about his brother.

She didn't mind. She actually liked hearing his voice. Reminded her she wasn't totally alone.

Being in Italy at the time and searching every coven she knew of, day drinking her feelings and partying her soul out at night, she had no worries since everything back home was fine.

But one morning, when Damon would usually call her for some advice for his love life, he just didn't call.

At first, she assumed he was busy, taking care of another bad guy who tried to kill his loved one, but neither Caroline nor Bonnie gave her any signs for three weeks straight.

She packed her bags and took the first flight back home.

Now, in front of the brothers house, she inhaled sharply and opened the door, going straight for the living room.

Empty.

It was like no one lived there anymore. The bourbon stash seemed untouched for days, the pillow cushion wasn't dropped sloppy  around the floor, and the coffee table wasn't full of clues for another quest.

Slightly panicking, she rushed out of the house and went to the only place in town where she knew everyone should be. Mystic Grill.

The bell announced her presence, and she scanned the room quickly. Her eyes stopped on the chocolate brown hair of Elena and marched to her with a little smile on her lips.

She pinched the brunettes arm and slid into the free spot next to her, winking at her in the process.

"How have you been, hottie?" she asked, looking at her with honey eyes

She held one finger up and motioned to the bartender to bring her the usual, giving the stunned girl some time to recover herself. Moscow Mule was one of her favourites at the moment after drinking it every day in Italy because of some guy that recommended it to her.

"Zinn, w-what are you doing here? I mean, when did you even get here?" Elena mumbled, looking at her friend like she was a ghost.

Zinnia chuckled lightly and bit her lip, looking at her. 'She is kinda cute,'thought the blonde, trying to stop herself from smiling since she was here to ask about Damon.

"I got here this morning, wanted to be a surprise, but no one was at the Salvatore house, so the surprise is ruined. Where's Daomn, by the way?" she went straight to the point.

Despite knowing Elena for so long and helping with her savings a few times, she wasn't actually too fond of her. Playing the brothers at the same time, Zinnia didn't like it that much. Even if she and Stefan weren't on talking terms since their last argument, she still cared about him.

Katherine breaking their bond the first time and ruining their lives one time could be forgiven, but the second time in a lifetime was too much to bear seeing.

"You- Care didn't tell you?" the doppelganger asked her, looking pitifully at her.

Clenching her jaw, she grabbed Elenas hand, digging her nails in the girls' wirst.

"Sweetie, I wouldn't be asking you if knew ,would I now?" Zinnia hissed, releasing her wrist

Elena gulped nervously and looked the girl in the eyes. Those sad eyes she always made when something was wrong, the young heretic hated those eyes of hers. Nothing good came after the Gilbert looked like that at her.

"Damon and Bonnie... They died." With a shaky breath, Elena revealed the cruel truth Zinnia feared the most.

She took hold of the glass with alcohol and swallowed the intoxicating liquid, gritting her teeth at the familiar taste.

Her bottom lip started trembling, closing her eyes and some tears were threatening to fall. The sting behind her eyelids killing her.

Zinnia took a sharp breath in and got rid of the hot tears that escaped down her cheeks, her focus returning on Elena.

"Elaborate." she couldn't find the strength to make another sentence.

Her best friend died. Damon wasn't gonna call her anymore.

She was alone again.

"We tried to bring Ric and the others back since you know...Bonnie a-and she kinda lost control I guess and Damon tried to save her t-then they just disappeared..." the brunette responded shaking, fearing how the blonde might react.

Elena truly felt sorry for Zinnia. The blonde left the town after Damon convinced her it was the right thing to do for herself and now he wasn't here to welcome her back. She knew how inseparable they were, Damon considering Zinnia as the little sister he never had.

Zinnia Holloway was his comfort person despite how much she tried to convince herself her relationship with him changed that.

Elena placed her warm hand on the blonde cold stone one and gave it a little squeeze, trying to comfort her in some way.

"Zinnia, I know how you must feel right now but we tried to bring them back...We're still trying! Maybe you could help us, I mean you're a powerful witch..." the older Gilbert trailed off

The blonde blinked rapidly trying to recollect herself and hear whatever Elena Gilbert was trying to tell her.

Hearing the distorted calling of her name, she grabbed her bag and stumbled out of the Grill rushing to her car.

"Zin!" Caroline Forbes called her from the other side of the parking lot.

With bloodshot eyes she gave her friend one last look and got in the car starting the engine.

"Zinnia Holloway you better not be leaving just like that!" Caroline yelled desperately at her and went in front of her car.

The blonde just gripped the steering wheel and pressed the gas off just to scare Caroline out of the way and then speed down the road.

She was doing it again.

Looking I'm the rear view mirror to check if Caroline was still watching her she murmured quickly the protection spell and then 'crepitus', watching Caroline, sobbing uncontrollably.

" I'm so sorry Care." Zinnia wishpered before the car was caught on flames.

She kicked the door oped and vampire speed into the woods.

She was gonna have a new like.

Staring at Caroline Forbes and Elena Gilbert rushing to her burning car, she whipped her tears and steadied her breath.

Zinnia stared empty at the two girls freaking out, mourning and wailing at the same time for the loss of their friend and she slowly closed her eyes. Closing herself. Closing her humanity.

She sucked in a shaky breath and with one last glance, she strode trough the trees. Searching for a new place. A new identity.
