Sebastian POV
"Is something wrong?" I asked, noticing the alarmed look on her face."You look like you've seen a particularly scary ghost."
"I was just lost in my thoughts, that's all." she replied hesitantly. "I guess Ominis was right. I'm not always good at paying attention to my surroundings."
"Speaking of which, have you seen Ominis today? He was already gone when I woke up. We were supposed to study for potions together but it's like he disappeared. Come to think of it, I didn't see you around either."
"Yes, we were together...working on...em...something." she said, looking quite uncomfortable."He should be in the common room by now."
"I see," I replied, my suspicion growing stronger, "And the thing you were working on, does it have anything to do with the experiment you asked him to participate in yesterday?"
Instead of replying, she let out a deep sight, leaned even heavier on the wooden railing and then started to giggle quietly. After a moment, she looked up at me with an embarrassed smile. "I almost forgot I asked him in front of you."
I turned around, leaning on the railing with my back now, and chuckled. "I'm not surprised he agreed to it so quickly. I probably wouldn't even have needed to think about it."
Still smiling she said, "And that's precisely why I asked him and not you."
"Ouch" I said, and I actually didn't need to act offended. I was disappointed that she didn't even consider asking me yesterday. "But you don't think I'd actually take advantage of you, do you?" I asked, a little bit concerned about her reply.
"Of course not" she reassured me, turning to face me. "we wouldn't be friends if I thought so poorly of you" She then playfully nudged me with her elbow. "But I have a feeling you would enjoy it a little too much if I were to declare my undying love for you."
I leaned in closer to her and grinned, "Guilty as charged, but I'd prefer if you said it without a potion."
She laughed at my response, "Sebastian, you're a shameless flirt, aren't you?"
Reader POV
He looked at me with surprise, "Do you think that's what I am doing, y/n? That I'm just flirting with you?" he ran his fingers through his messy hair and then hesitantly continued, "Last time I made a mistake, I mean...I made a lot of them but one of the biggest ones was that I wasn't honest about my intentions. In the end it cost me what's left of my family but also you and Ominis. And I'll be damned if I make the same mistake twice."
I wasn't sure I was following him but before any words could even form in my mind to ask, he had already closed the gap between us. Hand resting on the railing behind me, he reached for a strand of my hair, tucking it gently behind my ear. His fingertips brushed against my cheek, giving me goosebumps and the dark eyes were scanning me with such intensity that it made my heart race. I felt completely hypnotized by him. Again.
Almost hazily, my gaze lowered to his lips, which were already forming the question.
"Can I kiss you?"
I couldn't say yes, not after the morning with Ominis, but I wasn't able to say no either.
My mind was telling me to resist, to push him away and maintain a sense of control, but my body was betraying me, longing for his touch. Did I just nod? As he leaned in closer, his lips just inches from mine, I felt my knees weaken with anticipation-
"Sebastian Sallow! Miss y/n! In a library?! This behavior is completely unacceptable!" The sharp voice of Madam Scribner jolted me from my trance. Sebastian took a few steps back, creating some distance between us again, but continued to watch me with a cocky smirk. Unbelievable. It was clear that he was not ashamed to be caught by the old librarian at all.
