Queen Lucy would probably never have a better Parliament meeting than the one that just adjourned; she presented her universal healthcare bill, and it was not met with outright objection, so there was a CHANCE. Feeling triumphant, she went upstairs to check on Tim.
It still hurt that she had told him she has feelings for him, and he didn't remember. Also, what felt like an overwhelming moment of emotions bubbling over when she kissed him was something not memorable for him, since he didn't remember that either. Forgetting both moments made Lucy feel rejected.
But, it was not his fault he got into a car accident.
So, she tried her best to ignore her hurt feelings and be there for him.
Lucy walked into his hospital room to find him watching TV with Kojo in his lap. "How are you feeling?"
He smiled over at her. "I'm good. Docs said my head looks okay, and all the cuts are healing nicely, so I don't have to stay in the hospital room anymore."
"Are you sure? You're welcome to stay as long as you need to. Are you cold? Did someone touch the thermostat in here again? I'll get you a blanket..."
"Lucy, I'm fine."
"You don't look fine. You look cold. Where is Nurse Melanie? Let's get your temperature taken."
She rummaged through the drawer of supplies until she found the electronic thermometer. Then, she leaned over to hold it to his forehead; she was close enough to feel his breath on her neck, but Lucy tried to ignore the instant flash of heat to make sure Tim was truly fine. "Okay, you have a normal temperature, which means no sign of infection," she diagnosed. Lucy had learned a lot about medicine over the last couple of weeks.
"I'm feeling a lot better. Honest," he tried to calm her obvious worry. Tim only barely resisted the urge to reach out and touch her hand where it rested against the bed still holding onto the thermometer.
She nodded and smiled.
"What's on your busy schedule for the day?" He asked to distract himself.
"Well, I've got a foreign visit to coordinate with Grey and Zoe."
"Don't let me keep you."
Lucy huffed out a breath. "Yeah. I'll come by later, and we can go over any changes you'd like to propose to the universal healthcare bill." She had been using some pretty weak excuses to be with Tim no matter how many times he pushed her to focus on her work.
"Actually, I've marked everything up...here," he presented her with a stack of papers. "Figure this'll make changes go by faster. You're less likely to argue with a piece of paper," he lifted his lip in a small smile.
"Right," she was a little disappointed he did not want to debate every single line with her like every other time before. "Angela is with the police again. They have an update on who hit you, apparently. Since you listed her as your emergency contact, she's the one they've been calling with information. Last time I took the phone and talked to the detectives, they sugar coated everything. Apparently, no one likes to tell the Queen of Wilshira that they have no leads."
"Angela will tell me if they find the guy."
"WHEN they find the person that did this to you," she corrected, "they'll be punished to the full extent of the law for attempted murder of a royal. It's a serious crime."
"It probably wasn't intentional."
"I don't care. You could've died, and they'll pay for it," her eyes were blazing; someone hurt Tim, and that could NOT stand.
"You've got bigger things to worry about. Angela can handle my case. Go do great things," he urged.
She felt like she was being pushed out of his room...because she WAS.
