Katie hesitated at the entrance of the school, aware of the stares people were giving her as she dreaded entering. 'I can always go home, I mean mom has work and dad went out sometime last night, he won't be back for a while..' she inhaled, stepping back slightly. 'I already have so many absences, and I'm failing some classes..there isn't that much school left. I got this. I got this..' She exhaled as she got closer, finally growing the courage to go in once the bell rang. As she walked to her class she kept repeating that she will be ok.
Her teacher started attendance, making a note to point out how Kaite finally joined them. This made people stare at her, she felt her body heat with embarrassment and fear as a few kids were whispering to each other while casting glances at her. She pulled out her notebook, hoping that doodling would calm her while she listens to the teacher. She doodled a few girls holding hands and smiling at each other. She drifted off into thoughts about holding hands with a girl, blushing slightly to herself and smiling, suddenly the teacher said something that brought her to reality.
"okay class, for the final part of our lesson, you will be doing a partnered project and you both must put effort. I don't care about what, as long as you follow the planning sheet on what points you need to make, now pick your partners." She didn't know anyone's name...or anyone in general. She waited, hoping no one else left and would have to do it alone. She looked down at her doodles, adding a heart above the girls hands then drawing a small sketch of them kissing, smiling down at the pages. She looked up, not seeing anyone without a partner.
She suddenly heard an excited voice from beside her "hey! so you're Katie, right? It seems we both don't have a partner, so I guess you're mine! I'm Mytria." Katie slammed her notebook shut so loudly people looked at her, she inhaled feeling her chess tighten as she felt like running out of the room. 'I'm ok. I'm ok. I'm ok. I'm ok. I'm ok.' she kept repeating to herself while breathing for a moment before answering just a small "Ok. text me." while writing her number down and handing it to Mytria, knowing they will socialize better through text. The bell rang a few moments later and she got up to continue her day.
'god..I'm an idiot. why did I run like that, I could have said something else.' she thought, remembering how Mytria's dark tan skin matched her chocolate eyes..her eyes looked like dark pools reflecting mystery. The only contrasting feature Mytria had was her dyed red hair.. but, it looked cute. Her curly hair was wild and different from the rest of the girls in her class. Katie felt her cheeks heat slightly. SMACK. she hit her forehead with her notebook. "stupid! you can't like her." she mumbled to herself, getting her things from her locker, everyone else was already in class at this point. Her cheeks cooled as she realised these thoughts are probably due to the fact Mytria almost saw her drawings.
Katie slowly walked to her next class..dreading it, she despised it, she hated it. It may sound dramatic but she hates PE, not for the reasons most think. She is actually very fast and agile..though she can't catch or throw well. She hated the changing rooms. She doesn't know why, but the thought of holding hands with a girl, kissing a girl..just, feels right to her. And the changing room has a bunch of half naked girls. She isn't a pervert, but she knows the rumors that would follow if she accidentally saw someone. and it's not just that, it just..feels wrong. She can't explain it well. For now she just "forgets" to bring PE clothes and has deodorant with her.
She enters the room, slightly late, but no one really cares, its still the time people usually change, get water, or whatever. She glances around the room.. not seeing Nate, her best friend. 'he must already be off flirting with Hannah.' she thinks to herself, sitting down, she jumps slightly at a ping sound. 'I must have forgotten to turn my notification off..' she thought while checking it.
(212)553-####: hey it's Mytria, we can start the project at my house tonight, you ok with that?
Katie: yeah, that's fine. My parents aren't going to be home anyway, I'll just message them.
Mytria: soooooooo, what class yah in? I'm in study hall and these people are just letting us on our phones.
Katie: PE, waiting for the class to start. I hope we don't do anything that involves to much catching and throwing, soccer would be nice.
Mytria: oh! I love soccer too, but basketball is more of my thing, I was on this years team.
Katie's mind drifts to imagining Mytria in a basketball uniform, smiling as she poses with a basketball in hand for a photo.
BZZZT!! Katie's phone buzzes as Mytria says something else.
Mytria: I bet you're good at soccer, you have nice running legs, plus you look pretty light, I bet it's all muscle.
Katie: yeah. I used to love soccer, now I just practice with my brother.
Katie: gotta go! class is starting!
Mytria: meet me at the school entrance at 2:30!! my house isn't that far, we'll walk!
Katie's cheeks were a light shade of pink, as she turned off her phone and drifted into thought. 'Was..was Mytria FLIRTING with me?!...no she's just being nice..' Her face grew warmer, though she doubted Mytria would actually flirt with her, the idea of her with a girl was..cute, though she didn't always picture herself as a girl with a girl...why? 'there must be something wrong with me.' she thought. Her cheeks returned cold, she couldn't help but think she was weird as she got up to join the class. Turns out they were playing her least favorite thing...Dodgeball.
